IMAGINE GETTING SHOT AT!
That's the story this week as we went to the EB paintball event. To set the story straight, realize that the "best" paintballers in the group were newbs who had gone twice.
So we went there (in 100+ DEGREE) weather, dressed in long pants and sweaters. While some teams went with clever "Amigo" style jackets, Discovery went with contemporary sweaters. Anyways - so it was HOT and we started playing.
Adrenaline going: at first, everyone is a little afraid and you see people "crawling" out behind the "bunkers" (these so called bunkers were actually big ballons shaped in cylinders and Xs). But you see, the trick to paintballing (as I realized when taking a hit on the hand) is that you can't "slowly" do a move.
THE STRATEGY: pop out into the open and start shooting before others have a chance to shoot at you. This worked really well, at one point, I was able to take out 4 people since I essentially ran to the other side and shot at their backs.
BAD NEWS: well the strategy worked well...until these other folks showed up with THEIR OWN GUNS. What does that mean? I got out the next three rounds as I would pop into the open only to get shot at by all three of the new guys. These guys were good.
So of course, we decided as a team what any sensible team would decide to do, we talked to them: "excuse me, guys, I'm afraid that your styles of paintball is to 'amateur' for us. You are no longer allowed to play with us."
That fixed it.
To wrap up the day, we won the raffle for a bag of paintballs and an ION gun. It was a good day.
