Google Notebook may be dangerous to your company's health
In discussing my previous Google Notebook blog entry with some IBM colleagues, they raised the very good point that Google Notebook may well be a significant security risk for corporate users. It would be easy indeed to see how some unsuspecting employee of IBM, or any other company for that matter, might include something confidential in a notebook page clipped from an internal web site, or just written in a note to themselves. Given Google undoubtedly holds the rights to index notebook data on their servers, that could be very dangerous for corporate secrets.
In all the analysis I've read about Google Notebook, nobody has yet pointed that out. Wow. Tech-savvy users will have no problem recognizing what should or shouldn't go into one of these notebooks if they elect to use the program, but if I were IBM, Microsoft, Sun, or any other tech company, I'd think hard before I allowed my corporate employees to use this tool. It would be FAR to easy for someone to post something they shouldn't.
Thanks Sven and Andrew for pointing this out.
