I'm delighted to help Florin Coada, a security technical professional focused on secure development, post his first blog.
The last couple of years have been defined by the increasing numbers of security breaches. The IBM X-Force report for the first quarter of 2014 shows that the number of security incidents have considerably increased since 2011.
What's interesting to notice is the fact that old attacks such ash SQL Injections and cross site scripting are still responsible for a good number of security incidents reporting.
Recently, I have seen a lot of buzz around cloud development for web application. And I have to say I like the idea of it. (By cloud development I mean platform as service, specifically BlueMix.)
One of the reasons why I like it is because it comes with a number of offerings that make it very easy to add very cool features to your applications. I'm not going to list them because they are available here: https://ace.ng.bluemix.net/?ssoLogout=true#/store/cloudOEPaneId=store . Also, it's easy and cheap to try out new ideas.
Amongst those offerings there are 3 of them that will help a secure development process:
These three make the secure development easier for beginners such as myself, but also for experienced developers and security conscious people.
All the offerings above are aimed at enabling developers to build security in rather than patching it later.
I will not go into much detail on how they work, but I'll be covering these topics and how they make secure development easier at IBM Developer Connect 2014 in Twickenham. So, if you have the time please do come around and join the "Secure Development in the Cloud" session or ask questions using the #IBMDCUKI tag at @FlorinCoada.
