Abstract

The Making of an ECM Keynote Demo

Body

Think back to your last product demo. Even the most seasoned pros can't help think about things like "is the demo reaching my audience?", "is it honestly reflecting the capabilities of my product?". "is the network working?", and "are my servers going to behave?".

Now add to that a Las Vegas conference fueled audience of more than a 1000 and a 10m HD screen for all to see.

That pretty much describes our recent experience building the demo for the ECM Keynote session at IBM Insight 2014.

IBM's John Murphy, VP, ECM Products, Development and Strategy was joined on stage by Mohammed Attar, ECM's Director of the Case and Solutions Business for a live demo (yes, no slideware or prerecorded movies here!) of IBM Case Manager's recent 5.2.1 release and how it can help organizations rapidly create case style solutions that leverage the entire ECM portfolio of offerings.

Given that this was Las Vegas and that business software doesn't typically offer the same visual flash as the latest game release, we thought a little show biz would be in order. However, in keeping with ICM's promise of rapid solution assembly, we decided we would stay as close to out-of-the-box as possible with only a few small customizations that are fully supported and actually quite easy to accomplish.

The demo was a resounding success, confirmed by the very positive feedback we all received.

Many ICM experts in the crowd quickly noticed the "tweaks" and wondered how we did it, how long it took, and whether we could show them how. So to prove that not everything that happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas (but we all knew that anyway), here is a detailed article and the widget source in the hope that your projects are as equally successful!
