Abstract

Workflow Search Tutorial for FileNet ECM

Body

There are many situations where a seach must be executed from within a workflow process. Examples are:

  • File in folders: documents are filed in folders based on their metadata.

  • Search for documents: search for documents to update.

  • Search for custom objects: search for custom objects in the object store.

  • Case Searches: when documents are added to the system a search is used to locate the case folders so that the documents can be filed under the proper cases.

This has been done in the past using a combination of the Search Designer applet and FileNet workflows. This tutorial describes how to create the search template and incorporate it into a workflow using newer technologies. It includes how to set up a search using IBM Content Navigator and the special configuration needed for setting up searches for IBM Case Manager and IBM Case Foundation cases. For this tutorial, we will create a search using the search designer built into IBM Content Navigator. Then, we will walk through the process of configuring the CE_Operations searchForOne and searchForMany functions. While this example searches for case folders and uses case foundation constructs. The technique can be used with the old style workflows and can be created for any folder or document type.

Three files are included in this submission. The tutorial is provided as a PDF file along with a simple tutorial solution and security manifest. The tutorial relies on the case manager solution, but the techniques can be applied without the files if the user chooses.
