SaaS and Cloud: the words on everyone's lips at IBM Innovate, London

Corso travelled to London recently for the annual IBM Innovate conference. We noticed a new buzz and perhaps a brighter, fresher Innovate than in recent years.
Our intentions were to focus our message on the advantages of our SaaS offerings. Funnily enough, the prevailing message from the people we spoke to was that IBM Rational customers are looking for a mixture of BYOL (bring your own license) and a need to be more agile. Thus, modern alternatives such as SaaS can ensure that customers receive major benefits such as:
Our session was always going to be about how to deliver the IBM Rational software portfolio on the cloud either as SaaS or a hosted service. As a result we considered the views of a number of individuals from organizations who understood the problems with their own IT provider that the Corso cloud seeks to solve. Problems that arose included:
Our view is that it should be simple and quick to either offer up your own licenses or buy monthly via SaaS on the cloud. The advantages of this method include:
The message was well received by all who attended the session and it was certainly a validation of our belief that the total cost of software should be something that is paid for as and when and whose maintenance is as responsive as your own delivery is expected to be.
To conclude, we’ve noticed a big shift in favour of SaaS. This was demonstrated by an automotive multinational and an aircraft subsidiary in their key notes - customers don't want to wait for 3 months before an IT application or service is available. Similarly, they don't want to go through a two-week upgrade project. We live in an "on-demand" culture, and this mindset is driving the increased adoption of SaaS.
