Here in New England we're pretty odd about how we deal with the weather. The goal every fall is to wait as long as possible to turn the heat on. I guess it's bragging rights about how sadistic you can be to yourself and your family (not to mention how cheap you can be since heating the house gets expensive up here). "I could see my breath while watching TV last night but I'm not turning the heat on yet. I'm waiting for it to get really cold." When I was a kid, the goal every year for my parents was to hold out until November. We never made it that long but, "Go put on a sweater" was a recurring phrase...as was, "Well, go put on another sweater."
I'm still holding out here (the space heater running occasionally in my home office DOES NOT count) even though some of my local colleagues (*cough* @Kellypuffs aka Kelly Smith *cough*) turned theirs on a week ago and risked getting voted out of New England for it. Shameful! I remember listening to a morning show on one of the Boston radio stations while getting ready for school when I was little. They had a recurring schtick with a guy putting on the most ridiculous Boston/New England accent proclaiming how, "I ain't turning the heat on until Thanksgiving! A hahd frost? That's ridiculous! It ain't even cold yet!" or something like that.
Anyway...I'll stop picking on Kelly now. Not really, but you just won't see it so you'll think I stopped.
This week we have a great new article from Manish Aneja and Awanish Singh about Maven and a blog post from IBM DevOps insider Adrian Cho. We hope you like them. While you read, I'm going to go get another sweater.
