Are you new to IBM® Tivoli® Change and Configuration Management Database (CCMDB)? Would you like to learn some best practices to help you get started? A job aid entitled Where to Start with CCMDB is available to help you.
CCMDB helps manage, audit, and coordinate the change and configuration management processes. It is possible to create, assign, monitor, notify, and report on change requests and Configuration Items (CIs). CCMDB provides a single source of information for understanding both discovered views and authorized views of an IT infrastructure.
CCMDB provides standardized data about configurations and change records. In order to manage CIs and have them available to the change and configuration management processes, it is necessary to initialize the CCMDB database after the product is installed. It is necessary to enable the change functionality to ensure it supports and controls the changes within the organization.
Since every client situation can be unique it is possible that each implementation will have a different set of objectives and tools that may work into the project and approach. The information in the Where to Start with CCMDB job aid provides assistance to help a consultant or customer understand where to begin or help them have information to aid in their decision. This document provides guidance with such issues as whether to start
with configuration or change management first; using CCDMB with TADDM;
using other discovery tools; asset management; and enabling change
management without CIs or assets in the system.
