IBM Wave V1R2 Fix Pack 2 Highlights

The following highlights provide an overview of some of the new features, enhancements, and changes for IBM Wave for z/VM V1R2 in Fix Pack 2.

The fix packs for IBM Wave for z/VM are cumulative. The fix packs contain all APAR fixes from prior fix packs as well as the current function and features.

Audit Logging Feature

Auditing is a new feature for IBM Wave for z/VM. IBM Wave writes an audit record for each event or action that occurs within IBM Wave. The records are available in the IBM Wave Audit Log and can optionally be routed to SYSLOG. The auditable events include actions from z/VM systems, managed guests, Secure Shell (SSH), and application programming interfaces (API). You can work with the parameter files to filter logs and export records according to the auditing standards for your installation.

Adding direct-attached SCSI with FCP

You can now add direct-attached SCSI when you create new z/VM Guests or duplicate existing guest definitions.

Updated function for the Command Line Interface

A new display API is added that outputs the specified data from the IBM Wave knowledgebase in .csv file format and the details API is enhanced.

Activate periodic database backup

A new periodic task to take automatic database backups is added to the list of IBM Wave periodic tasks. This task is inactive by default. When activated, IBM Wave can back up the database every 24 hours. The timing can be adjusted.

Support for SLES12 and RHEL7 on the Wave Server

V1R2 fix pack 1 introduced SLES12 and RHEL7 support for managed guests. V1R2 fix pack 2 introduces IBM Wave Server (WAVESRV) support for these distributions and versions.

Setting the boot device

IBM Wave users can now set the boot device (IPL statement) during Bare Metal Installation (BMI) for Linux and when updating z/VM Users. Depending on the directory entry for the guest, and the availability of FCP devices, the boot device can be set to None, CMS, virtual address, or SCSI.

Recognize and override certain z/VM timeout definitions

IBM Wave can now automatically recognize and report the guest deactivate and recycle timeout values based on the definitions in z/VM. Users can also override the z/VM settings during particular instances of the deactivate and recycle actions without permanently overriding the settings in z/VM.

Control the virtual network segment that IBM Wave can use to take guest actions

IBM Wave provides a method to disable certain virtual network segments from being used by IBM Wave for guest actions. This function is useful for clients that have Linux guests with multiple network interfaces, but that don't want IBM Wave to use some or one of these interfaces for guest management or SSH traffic.

Remove inconsistent guests from the Enterprise Viewer

Guests that are marked as inconsistent in IBM Wave can be removed from the Enterprise Viewer as well as the Current System View.

Display the Fix Pack number currently installed

In the IBM Wave client Help menu, the “About” option is updated to display the current Fix Pack level installed on the IBM Wave server.
