Type of ConnectorsIn WebSphere Cast Iron Cloud Integration, there are two types of connectors. They are primarily differentiated due to their internal implementation. They are:
The difference between them being that the Type I connectors are built in Java, while the Type II connectors are built using a framework & the activities being implemented as a set of orchestrations. I plan to blog in detail later about this framework. As the list of Type II connectors is small, let me list them :-), you can assume the other connectors are Type I Type II connectors, as of now, December 2011.
Type II connectors are not available out of the box, they need to be downloaded from a repository. This repository is same as the TIPs repository. You'd need a community credential to login and download. If you don't have one, you can register here and pretty soon, you'd get your id created. So once you received your community id, in Studio preferences, go to Session Login and enter this URL: https://ciapps.castiron.com/SSO, under Server Name group. You can also save your community credentials, under Login information grouping. Then, click on Login, at the lower right corner, in Status view of Studio. Once you're authenticated, click on Solutions->Plugin connectors, which will open up a window of Available and Installed (Type II) connectors. You can then, select the connector you want to use and click Install. Once the installation is done (wont take more than few minutes), you can view this connector listed, under New endpoints. This way, a Type II connector is installed and is available to use within Studio.
