Asset Repository now GA!
Continuing further on my two earlier postings on Software Assets and Asset standard, this posting introduces Rational Asset Manager (RAM), which GA'd last week. RAM can be viewed more as a development time asset repository, storing all the development related assets/artifacts. You can get more resources on RAM at developerWorks here and a good whitepaper on the Federated Metadata management and also on RAM, WSRR integration.

Asset Standard
Continuing further on my earlier posting on Software Assets, I was mentioning if there exists any standard in software assets space. Reusable Asset Specification (RAS) provides a standard way to describe and package assets. So when was RAS defined? Some RAS timelines.
So, next thing to ponder on is the need for RAS. RAS is needed for a common representation of assets to enable the transfer, sharing, and management of software assets. RAS provides the organization and structure of information and artifacts for an asset. Lets see in a later posting, on asset management/governance provided in the form of asset repositories, which is critical in SOA implementations. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() [Read More] |

Software asset
I guess, underlying all of SOA benefits is the concept of reusability. Services are assets that grow in value as they are reused. I'll try to post some material on asset, its management and on some of the products/solutions from IBM for the same.

IDEA rings in the Innovator
Another landmark deal was closed yesterday by IBM in India with !dea Cellular, a leading GSM mobile service provider in India. The deal would size around US$ 600 million to US$ 800 million over the 10-year period, with some conditions attached to it.
Read from the official press announcement: An excerpt from a note sent by IBM's Regional GM India/South Asia: ...The strategic win is a strong testimony of our leadership in the Indian market and the trust clients place in IBM...It further widens the gap between IBM and competition in the Indian communications sector by a huge margin. The proven delivery capability of IBM in the Indian telecom market set IBM miles ahead of competition. This is a second major deal with a telcom major in India, by IBM, the first one being with Bharti Tele-Ventures, inked in 2004. I like the background music of one of !DEA cellular's ad, in which the connection between to people talking/thinking about each other is shown as zeros and ones(bits and bytes). Some of their TV ads are posted at their site here. ![]() |
