RAS was initially developed by the RAS consortium 2001-2003
RAS was adopted at the St. Louis OMG meetings, April 2004
The RAS FTF submitted its Final report to the OMG in March 2005
RAS FTF Final report accepted and final voting completed by OMG in June 2005
So, next thing to ponder on is the need for RAS. RAS is needed for a common representation of assets to enable the transfer, sharing, and management of software assets. RAS provides the organization and structure of information and artifacts for an asset. Lets see in a later posting, on asset management/governance provided in the form of asset repositories, which is critical in SOA implementations.
IBM has launched its first ever external Thinkplace site on the Alphaworks platform. Click here to read the press announcement. The top ideas will then help shape the agenda for the GIO sessions that begin on June 6 in Nairobi and conclude in September in Cape Town, with stops in Dakar, Paris, Lisbon, Atlanta and Beijing in between. More than 150 global thought leaders are expected to convene across these seven “deep dive” sessions.
With this launch, every one can get involved in this important global discussion. Log into ThinkPlace on IBM’s alphaWorks Services site to contribute ideas and to join the conversation. The first-ever public challenge will run for three weeks through May 25. I'm there already, how about you?
This is exactly what we mean by Innovation that matters, for our company and to the world, one of three IBM values at work.
I guess, underlying all of SOA benefits is the concept of reusability. Services are assets that grow in value as they are reused. I'll try to post some material on asset, its management and on some of the products/solutions from IBM for the same.
A Software Asset is
a collection of Artifacts
which provides a solution to a requirement or business/mission need, for one or more contexts, with instructions for usage and variability points, as shown in the beside diagram
What are Artifacts?
Workproducts from the software process
Requirements, Designs & Models (including enterprise and systems architecture), Source code, Data, Tests, User Interfaces, Documentation, Service Interfaces, Estimates and so on.
Kinds of assets
Applications, components, patterns, software that runs systems or products, services, frameworks, templates.
As assets are comprised of a number of software development artifacts, those artifacts may exist in many forms and reflect a variety of styles. Such diversity increases the costs of discovering, comprehending, and reusing. I'll talk about a standard in my next posting, that provides a standardized way to organize, structure, describe, and package these artifacts.
Such an approach mitigates reuse costs by providing consistency and predictability across assets, which in turn reduces the costs of asset production and asset consumption.
Here comes another presentation from marketing team, for IMPACT 2007. IBM WebSphere Technical Exchange (WTE) and IBM Transaction and Messaging (T&M) conference have been combined to become IBM IMPACT 2007, coming May 20-25 to Orlando.

Another landmark deal was closed yesterday by IBM in India with !dea Cellular, a leading GSM mobile service provider in India. The deal would size around US$ 600 million to US$ 800 million over the 10-year period, with some conditions attached to it.
An excerpt from a note sent by IBM's Regional GM India/South Asia:
...The strategic win is a strong testimony of our leadership in the Indian market and the trust clients place in IBM...It further widens the gap between IBM and competition in the Indian communications sector by a huge margin. The proven delivery capability of IBM in the Indian telecom market set IBM miles ahead of competition.
This is a second major deal with a telcom major in India, by IBM, the first one being with Bharti Tele-Ventures, inked in 2004. I like the background music of one of !DEA cellular's ad, in which the connection between to people talking/thinking about each other is shown as zeros and ones(bits and bytes). Some of their TV ads are posted at their site here.
Ankura, a three day tech workshop at NIE, Mysore was organized by a local student chapter of IEEE and the students of NIE. IBM, one of the silver sponsors, received a 3 hr slot to conduct a tech workshop. A manager in ISL, an alumni of NIE, along with IBM India's University Relations team, was co-ordinating the IBM's event. The event was scheduled to start at 10AM, and we had to start from Bangalore early in the morning at around 5:45AM - 6AM. Mysore, is a three hour drive from Banaglore and with the recent four laning of the road, it was a very smooth drive.
I got another chance to spread the benefits of building Open skills and how one can contribute to open source projects. The title of my talk was What OPEN means to YOU!. Two of my colleagues, spoke on Web 2.0 and Autonomic computing. The audience were very attentive and asked really some good questions. I'm posting some of the pictures taken at the event by the organizers and also from one of my colleague. I'm posting the picures in a loop for easy viewing.
Whoa! The website is sooo beautiful and the logo astounded me much! Just opened the website and got struck with the beauty of it. I'm not saying the previous website style was worse - it's just that it's
fresh. I like it.
This is a great improvement both in what the website offers as well as how easy it is to update
Yep... It looks awsome. Gr8 work. :)
Yes, looks really great!
Says a committer woking on the update: "Some work is going on for a totally
refreshed L&F but it's not ready for review yet, you folks will have to wait ;-)". So Stay tunned!
Further to my posting on G 2.0 release plan, G 2.0 M3 is now available from the Geronimo community (since 03/04). This milestone release received 12 votes (called +1s in the commutnity) and no objections. Couple of new features include:
