Introduction This article describes how to configure a Web GUI map to launch another Web GUI map in a portlet page. In Web GUI 7.4.0/8.1, a map can be configured to launch (or change the context) of an Event Viewer or AEL portlet with the "Update Event List (using wires)" launch action. This action can also be used to configure custom wires between maps such that clicking an element in one map may launch a portlet page containing another map. This article describes how to do this. (Note: This article was updated on 23 September... [More]

Problem statement: In the current 7.3.1 FP (FP6 and below), when the combo of < inputfile.sql and -nosecure results in nco_sql not prompting for the password. Example: ./nco_sql -server NCOMS -user root -nosecure < test.sql The reason being that the middleware's isql interface (which nco_sql uses) assumes the password is the first line of test.sql in the case. This problem is recorded in APAR (IV34550) - ISQL, IN NON SECURE MODE, IS NOT PROMPTING FOR PASSWORD Resolution: nco_sql externalizes... [More]

You can use Netcool/Impact to expose data types and policy user output parameters through the UI data provider to populate Tivoli Integrated Portal (TIP) charting portlets. Through the use of Netcool/Impact polices, you can provide additional filtering logic to allow the data populated in the portlets to be in context of other portlets, like the Netcool/OMNIbus Active Event List (AEL). In this scenario we will visualize the archived event data in real-time. In this example, we have a Netcool/OMNIbus ObjectServer TDW (Tivoli Data... [More]

SNMP Probe: Procedure to
update SNMP v3 User Credentials in Peer-to-peer failover mode Objective Update SNMP v3 user credentials in mttrapd probe without disrupting its production
data streams, i.e. SNMP traps and ObjectServer events. To achieve this, mttrapd probe shall have two runtime instances as master
and slave. While probes running, user credential update, which requires restarting
probe, can be performed in turn onto the two probes, firstly slave probe, and
then master probe, leveraging on peer-to-peer failover mechanism that... [More]

A common problem with the SNMP probe (nco_p_mttrapd) is that the hostname resolution lookups (which are done synchronously and in a blocking way) can often take a long time to be performed, this makes the probe get behind as it is spending a disproportionate amount of time performing hostname lookups (often via DNS) rather than processing alerts. The standard workaround, albeit not ideal, is to disable hostname resolution in the probe (NoNameResolution property) and then handle name resolution either with static lookup files in the rules file,... In database, helpdesk and other Netcool OMNIbus gateways, there is no peer-to-peer functionality available for a master and slave gateway configuration as in probes. There is no officially supported method for gateway primary and secondary failover/failback and high availability. Instead, a highly available gateway is typically configured using a cold standby method. A cold standby gateway will run only when the primary gateway is down. Scripts will use nco_ping to check when the primary gateway is down and startup the cold standby gateway.... [More]
