Welcome to the Network and Service Assurance Blog, where you can read the perspectives from network and service assurance experts. This Blog provides insights into the network and service assurance solution, as well as technical details about specific IBM
The Netcool/OMNIbus 8.1 Event Viewer and Event List widgets have the capability to send the event data from the event clicked on to another widget via wires. The default format of this data is a JSON message. For widgets that do not support JSON formatted data however, this is a problem, since the recipient widget will not know how to process the data payload. This companion supplement provides a worked example of how you can use Netcool/Impact to pre-format the JSON message into a format consumable by the target widget.
I have put together two demo automations for OMNIbus that deal with event suppression and unsuppression based on requirements from discussions with customers. I am making these available for folks to download, try out, and kick the tyres on.
Please do let me have your feedback if you think these functions are useful and any suggestions for modification you think necessary. Please also let me know if you can think of any other correlation type functions that you think would be good to see in OMNIbus... [More]
Do you use the command line and want to save some typing, are you fed up of having to remember the name of servers and options you don't use very much, or simply want the thrill of pressing the TAB key and seeing it fill in an OMNIbus server name? In this article I will demonstrate how to customize the UNIX shell command line to auto complete for the ObjectServer and associated command line utilities.
You will need use the bash shell and have an OMNIbus install with the OMNIHOME and NCHOME... [More]

Enabling X in Y event rate correlation
Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus environments often have devices on their networks that produce many alerts. Many of these alerts represent problems where... [More]
When adding a new Object Server to an environment, there are only two Object Server users created, the root and nobody user. Creating Object Server users is done easily from the nco_sql command line or from the Netcool Administrator for a one by one user creation. However, if you need to create 100 users, that can be a tedious task! Below are steps to export users from another Object Server and import users into a new Object Server.
Note, these steps do completely overwrite the user information in the new Object Server, including user... [More]
This is a follow on to ' Enhancements to ObjectServer LDAP authentication '. This time I will walk through a step-by-step example of configuring an ObjectServer to authenticate using LDAP. I will demonstrate configuring an ObjectServer to authenticate users in multiple organizational units, which requires the LDAP search enhancement discussed in the previous blog. This article is aimed at someone who is familiar with ObjectServer configuration, but not familiar with LDAP.
I approach the... [More]

As part of an ongoing effort to improve the effectiveness of Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus documentation, we have restructured the error message documentation in the Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus V7.4 information center.
Enhanced error message documentation, with detailed administrator responses, is now available in the Troubleshooting section of the Information Center and in a troubleshooting appendix to the Administration Guide (PDF, 2.2 MB).
The documented messages were identified as those most frequently reported in problem... [More]
Enhancements to the OMNIbus ObjectServer native LDAP support in version 7.4.0 fixpack 2 allows amongst other things: authentication with users in multiple OU's and use of sAMAccountName.
I will discuss the model currently used by the ObjectServer to authenticate with LDAP, restrictions with this and how they are addressed by the fixpack. I will also provide snippets of configuration, concentrating on the differences between the old and new models. Full details of how to configure can be found in the Netcool OMNIbus... [More]
The Tivoli Netcool/Impact product can be used as an OSLC facade for third party products that don't have their own OSLC service provider capability. In this recorded demo, we take you through using Impact to provide hover preview capability to TBSM as an OSLC consumer for the Netcool/OMNIbus product, enabling the ITM event information to be displayed inside a new hover preview window inside TBSM.
