TCR Enablement for Cisco IP SLA (Beta Release)

IBM has released a TCR Enablement (Beta Release) for Cisco IP SLA and Cisco CBQoS in Q3 2011. The TCR Enablement that we delivered to customer is called Common Pack. These Common Packs are developed with the thought of exploring the capability of Cognos reports. The objectives are to produce a set of sample reports that can give users some visibility to Cognos report 'look and feel'. Therefore some useful and interesting sample reports are presented from both Common Packs.
CISCO IP SLA
Cisco IP SLA supports Service Level Agreement performance metrics in accordance to the IP SLA test type/operation. Supported types are UDP Jitter, HTTP, TCP Connect, ICMP Echo, UDP Echo, VoIP Jitter and RTP. The following are the key metrics for IP SLA; RTT (ms) (avg) for Round-Trip Delay, Inbound Jitter & Outbound Jitter for Jitter, Inbound (ms) & Outbound (ms) for One-Way Latency and MOS & ICPIF for Voice Quality. Five sample reports have been created leveraging on the Cisco IP SLA metrics as listed below.
HTTP Test Report
This report shows some of HTTP (Hypertext Transfer Protocol) test metrics. It mainly consists of a table (HTTP Summary) and two pie charts (HTTP Test and HTTP Test Transaction).
HTTP Test (Pie Chart)
The value of these KPIs; DNS (ms), TCP Connect (ms) and Transaction (ms) are collected in a certain interval and are then aggregated in percentages. This way customer can view which HTTP operation has the largest Round Trip Time (RTT) taken at a particular interval.
In addition, user can also view the Transaction Failed and Transaction Succeeded KPIs in a pie chart. It will benefit the user who needs to see a quick glance of HTTP test transaction.
RTP IP SLA Monitoring Report
Basically it reports RTP (Real-time Transport Protocol) test metrics such as the following:
This report provides metrics related to test health. It helps users to monitor the test probe statistics such as Duplicate Poll Count, Test Count and Missed Count. This report is a combination of vertical bar chart (Duplicate Poll Count & Test Count) and line chart (Missed Count) as shown in figure below.
UDP Jitter IP SLA Monitoring Report
This report provides jitter KPIs including both inbound and outbound directions and latency for UDP (User Datagram Protocol) Jitter test type. The following are the complete list of the metrics.
In this report, all the metrics are presented in a vertical bar chart. Below are few chart examples:
Voice Quality Scores Report
In this sample report, the two key Voice Quality KPIs (ICPIF & MOS) are displayed into two separate charts. These charts provide user a quick overview of the voice quality score of a VoIP (Voice over IP) network.
This report is very straightforward where it shows the ICPIF (Calculated Planning Impairment Factor) value of a test across time.
MOS By Hour Report
Mean Opinion Score (MOS) is used as voice quality measurement. Typically value 1 will indicate the lowest voice quality whereas 5 will indicate the highest voice quality. In the MOS By Hour Report chart shown below, the MOS metric is rate based on the following conditions.
Excellent : > 4.5 and <= 5
Good : > 4 and <= 4.5
Fair : > 3 and <= 4
Poor : > 2 and <= 3
Very Poor : > 1 and <= 2
This report is very useful for user to have an instant view at which hour the MOS has the lowest value by looking at the red color indicator. Lighter red indicates 'Poor' quality whereby darker red color indicates 'Very Poor' quality.
Hopefully this entry will be a good start to introduce a variety of Cognos sample reports. The Cisco CBQoS sample reports however will be covered in the next entry.
