Since 1.3C, a selection of technology packs are delivered with Common Packs. A Common Pack is made up of Cognos data-model generated from the tech pack, from which user can create reports using the Cognos Report Studio suite, as well as some sample Cognos reports.
Here I’ll summarize all the info related to Common Pack, so that you’ll have a good overview of Common Pack and how to get started with it.
What is delivered in packs:
As mentioned, only a selected few of our technology packs are Cognos-enabled. For such packs, the artifacts delivered in the GA-ed media includes the following (example taken from 1.3C MIB-II):
* BCP: Base Common Pack (prerequisite pack for the Common Pack). Starting from 1.3D release, the Wireline Common BCP is not packaged into the tech pack media, but available separately as Fix Pack or IFIX.
**Common Pack Reference guide is a document version of the Presentation view of the datamodel, as seen in Framework Manager.
Pre-requisite packs aka BCPs:
Please note that wireline Common Packs require the following pre-requisite BCPs:
Before installing the packs…:
The following has to be done before we start installing the common pack:
1. Download and install the software/toolings, which are:
· Framework Manager 8.4.1
· Common Pack Service
· Model Maker Manager
2. FTP/Download the common pack jar files, and the BCP jar files into your laptop.
Workflow in installing the Common Packs:
* Install pre-requisite pack first if applicable. e/g: Cisco CMTS common pack has dependency on MIBII common pack. So we must install MIBII common pack first, followed by Cisco Device common pack.
Please refer to the user documentation for details on the Common Pack. Here’s a list of useful documentation:
