How can I see all my domains in one view?

Abstract

How can I see all my domains in one view?

Body

There are many reasons why you might want to use more than one Tivoli Network Manager domain to discover your network. Maybe you have geographically separate networks that you want to discover at different times or with different settings. Maybe your network is just really big, and you can get a quicker discovery time by splitting it up into sections. In any case, you might still want the option to see all your devices in one topology view. But the Network Views show only one domain at a time. So what to do?

Assuming that you know both your network and Network Manager well, you can do both - discover (and view) domains separately AND combine them into one cross-domain view. This is quite a trick, but can be very worthwhile. (It doesn't work if you're still running the soon-to-be-EOS Network Manager 3.8, only for 3.9 FP4 and 4.1.1.)

As it says in the Knowledge Center documentation on cross-domain discovery, (which was also updated for 3.9 Fixpack 1), you need to enable and configure cross-domain linking, then run cross-domain discoveries in all the domains you want to link. After that, you can create cross-domain network views, and check that what you see is what you expected.

And for those of us who are more immersive learners, the excellent ismconnect YouTube channel recently produced a 2-part video tutorial showing how it's done. Just click the video below to get started.
