IBM Netcool Operations Insight v1.1 includes OMNIbus v7.4 fix pack 3 and Web GUI v7.4 fix pack 2. This article describes some of the main enhancements included in the fix packs. You can join the open beta program for IBM Netcool Operations Insight Next here to learn about more new features and enhancements.
OMNIbus v7.4 Fix Pack 3
Enabling X in Y event rate correlation
Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus environments often have devices on their networks that produce many alerts. Many of these alerts represent problems where performance thresholds have been breached, for example, a switch hitting its maximum bandwidth capacity during a peak period. These temporary threshold breaches are often expected and the business policy is to ignore them unless the breach is sustained for a prolonged but specific period. If such alerts are sustained beyond these specified time periods however, operators must take action. This describes a classic 'X' in 'Y' event rate scenario, where the operator is only interested in alerts that occur more than X times in Y seconds.

Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus self-monitoring
Self-monitoring enables you to monitor a range of the key performance indicators (KPI) within the Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus and Web GUI infrastructure. The performance data is reported as synthetic events and can be viewed in the Event List or in a Web GUI dashboard. The event data is also written to a self-monitoring log file.

Updates to the OSLC interface
Event Collection Identifier Pattern (ECIP) capabilities are included in the Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus OSLC Provider. These capabilities enable an administrator to assign a query pattern to various resource types that are known in the Jazz for Service Management resource registry. The resource types can be registered for the provision of an events URI in reconciled resource records.

Web GUI v7.4 Fix Pack 2
AEL event management tools
Use the Web GUI event management tools to launch into IBM SmartCloud Analytics - Log Analysis to display event data. You can run the event management tools from the AEL Tool menu or you can right click one or more event rows in the AEL and select a tool. The following AEL menu items are available:
● Search for events by node - video
● Search for similar events - video
● Event distribution by node - video
● Keywords and search filter - video

System Health Dashboard
The Netcool Health dashboard is a Web GUI dashboard that displays Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus self-monitoring data. The dashboard is divided into three panels to display status gauges for ObjectServer health, status gauges for client and application health, and self-monitoring event details. When you select a gauge in the Netcool/OMNIbus ObjectServer Health or Netcool Client and Application Health panels, the associated self-monitoring events are displayed in the Status Events panel.

Prompts & Metrics GUIs
Web GUI v7.4 FP2 contains new New Prompts and Metrics definition GUIs. Previously Prompts and Metrics could only be modified via Webtop Administrator API (WAAPI) commands.

Source and target data sets for wiring widgets
You can create wires between widgets so that a target widget will update in context of the source widget following a nodeClickedOn event. OMNIbus Web GUI supports “update in context” between the following pairs of data sets:
● Events → Journal Entries (journal entries for the clicked-on event will be displayed)
● Events → Event Fields (field values for the clicked-on event will be displayed)
● Events → Event Details (event details for the clicked-on event will be displayed)
● Filter Summary → Events (events for the clicked-on filter will be displayed)
● Event Summary → Events (events for the clicked-on filter and severity will be displayed)

New "Metrics" data set in the Web GUI data provider
You can now populate Dashboard Application Services Hub gauge widgets with the value of a Web GUI metric. For a specified Web GUI metric, relevant data is retrieved from the data source to calculate and provide the metric value.
