Wi-Fi device discovery support in Tivoli Network Manager 4.2

Technical Blog Post

Abstract

Wi-Fi device discovery support in Tivoli Network Manager 4.2

Body

In Tivoli Network Manager 4.2 GA, discovery support for Wi-Fi devices is made possible using the Airspace agent. The agent is written in Perl and retrieves WLAN information through SNMP discovery. The Airspace agent is designed to query data from the Airspace MIBs and was developed using the Cisco Catalyst 3850 switch with wireless controller functionality enabled and thin access points through the Ethernet PoE ports.

The following MIBs are used by the agent:

AIRSPACE-REF-MIB.mib
AIRSPACE-SWITCHING-MIB.mib
AIRSPACE-WIRELESS-MIB.mib

The Airspace agent is enabled under Full Layer 2 and Layer 3 Discovery->WLAN:

After performing a discovery on the Cisco devices, the user can view WLAN information on the WLAN controller:

In the Network Views, the user can create filtered views for displaying WLAN connectivity, eg. SSID:
