Island nodes in a topology can adversely affect RCA. I've found that creating a view that allows me to quickly find islands helps in addressing these issues with respective departments (SysAdmins, NetAdmins, etc).
Create a reporting view for IslandNodes (SQL for DB2, may need to be adapted to other platforms)
drop view ncim.islandNodes;
The Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus V7.4 documentation has been updated to describe new functions provided by fix pack 2. The Information Center and the PDF guides now contain the following enhanced or additional information.
Note: Features and enhancements supplied by the fix pack are indicated in the documentation by the following graphical cue:
The following topics describe new LDAP query functionality that allows the ObjectServer to authenticate users in multiple organizational units (OU). Query searches... [More]

IBM Netcool/OMNIbus Best Practices
Using IBM Tivoli Network Manager with the most recent fixpack allows for the use of some great environmental variables for administering and controlling log and trace files.
The online documentation shows the setup or setting of the environmental variables, with references to any conflicts.

As part of an ongoing effort to improve the effectiveness of Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus documentation, we have added administrator responses for some of the error messages most frequently reported in PMRs. We welcome your comments on these updates and any suggestions you might have for improving our error message documentation.
The enhanced documentation is available on the Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus Information Center and in the Error Messages PDF Guide .
The documentation for the following error messages was updated:
IBM Tivoli Network Manager stores all snmp passwords in ncim. snmp version 1 and 2 passwords are moved to snmpV1Sec. snmp version 3 passwords are moved to snmpV3Sec. But how do you find which password was used successfully in the discovery?
The starting place for consistency is to use OQL. Whether your ncim database is DB2, Oracle, Informix or Mysql the OQL connection from the ITNM server is the best.
Documentation on NCIM OQL query
The following is a collection of queries I've compiled to assist in understanding inconsistencies in the discovered topology.
You will obviously need to replace the variables below such as $DOMAIN / $USERNAME / $PASSWORD with the correct values
It should be pointed out that none of these queries are formatted to support multiple domains in an NCIM instance and therefore will need to be edited to include a domain qualifier such as
WHERE entity.domainMgrId = (SELECT domainMgrId FROM domainMgr WHERE domainName LIKE... [More]

In an effort to automatically export the NCIM topology to a Discovery Library book, we created the stitcher below. The goal is to have the discovery library book automatically created at the end of the network discovery, thereby "publishing" any changes to the topology to TADDM.
Successful use of the stitcher will require:
Copy and modification of the $PRECISION_HOME/adapters/ncp_dla/dla_export.sh (see stitcher notes).
Configuration of the ncp_dla (see Product Documentation "Configuring the... [More]
The Tivoli Network Manager Transmission Edition 5.6 ships with a copy of the DB2 JDBC driver 3.1.57 in order to support DB2 9.1 as its NCIM database.
If the DB2 database is installed with a Fix Pack or to a higher release, the user will see the following error while browsing the NE Management tab in Network Manager (TN) Admin page:
Reason: For input string: "A"
Refer to the log $NCHOME/log/precisiontn/nmtn_server.log and nmtn_gui.

I am pleased to announce the publication of a new Netcool Best Practices document:
IBM DB2 High Availability for Tivoli Netcool products - Best Practices
IBM DB2 is an industry standard relational database management system that is frequently used in Netcool deployments. For example: as a configuration repository for Tivoli Integrated Portal (TIP) and Netcool/OMNIbus WebGUI; as the IBM Tivoli Network Manager (ITNM) NCIM data repository; and as the historical archive repository for Netcool/OMNIbus events. In all cases,... [More]
The IBM Tivoli Netcool/OMNIbus development team are pleased to announce the launch of their Early Access/Design Program!
The aim of the EAP is to get early feedback on the output of each of the release themes. So as the development team progress with their sprints, they'll be periodically sharing what they have with EAP participants to gain feedback which can be incorporated in the code before reaching the Open Beta stage.
The nature of the interaction will vary depending on the development theme in question. For some themes... [More]
