In database, helpdesk and other Netcool OMNIbus gateways, there is no peer-to-peer functionality available for a master and slave gateway configuration as in probes. There is no officially supported method for gateway primary and secondary failover/failback and high availability. Instead, a highly available gateway is typically configured using a cold standby method. A cold standby gateway will run only when the primary gateway is down. Scripts will use nco_ping to check when the primary gateway is down and startup the cold standby gateway.... [More]
A common integration that we see is for an administrator provide a way for operators of downloading exported data from the Web GUI server to their client machine. Although this can be achieved using a 'download' CGI script, a neater and more efficient way to do this is to use the facilities built into the WebSphere server that Web GUI is running on. Place the data files in a directory under $TIPHOME/profiles/TIPProfile/installedApps/TIPCell/isc.ear/OMNIbusWebGUI.war (eg: ... [More]

I blogged the other day (see here ) about a way to generate a report of the user to group assignment in the ObjectServer, which was the result of a RFE request. Sort of related to that, we've had another RFE request that can be implemented with an SQL procedure, that I think is worth sharing here. The request (see here for details) is to add a method for creating details in the alerts.details table, in a similar manner to the jinsert SQL procedure that simplifies the creation of journal entries. The alerts.details table is used to hold... [More]
We've had a couple of RFE requests recently that can be met by creating an SQL procedure to implement the required functionality. The purpose of this blog post is to walk through one of those examples and show how the procedure can be used and how it works. The RFE in question is http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/rfe/execute?use_case=viewRfe&CR_ID=19979 the request was to provide the ability to determine via nco_sql which group and user ID belongs to. This can't be done with a single query because the information needed is split across... [More]
Overview This article descibes how to use the new group filters functionality in Netcool/OMNIbus Web GUI 7.4. The delivery of this popular enhancement request provides the ability to assign a filter to a group of users. All members of that group may then use that filter in Web GUI components (including the new Event Viewer, Active Event List and Event Dashboard). Any changes made to the group filter affect all users of that filter. This significantly reduces the number of required filters, removing the need to copy filters to multiple... [More]

According to Oracle Java web documentation, BAD_PARAM exception is thrown when a parameter passed to a call is out of range or otherwise considered illegal. This article is written to show an example of org.omg.CORBA.BAD_PARAM exception when there is a mismatch of Repository ID between Entry Point IOR and target device, and how to check the parameter. The example below is based on a resolved PMR handled by OMNIbus Integrations Level 3 Support. Further read: Repository ID Mismatch Resulting org.omg.CORBA.BAD_PARAM Exception
