Champions of the recent twelve week Tuesday night city trivia challenge, we are practicing between sessions. We missed a question last night about a company once known as the "Computing Tabulating Recording Company". Yes the answer is IBM. Perhaps in my search for an answer my thought relevancy process was too narrow. If a perfect match technote (our word for a 'solution') from the ITNM (IBM Tivoli Network Manager) portal is not available take a look at the mustgather. ITNM MustGather technote A mustgather is a unique IBM... [More]

You can use Netcool/Impact to expose data types and policy user output parameters through the UI data provider to populate Tivoli Integrated Portal (TIP) charting portlets. Through the use of Netcool/Impact polices, you can provide additional filtering logic to allow the data populated in the portlets to be in context of other portlets, like the Netcool/OMNIbus Active Event List (AEL). In this scenario we will visualize the archived event data in real-time.
In this example, we have a... [More]

SNMP Probe: Procedure to
update SNMP v3 User Credentials in Peer-to-peer failover mode
Update SNMP v3 user credentials in mttrapd probe without disrupting its production
data streams, i.e. SNMP traps and ObjectServer events.
To achieve this, mttrapd probe shall have two runtime instances as master
and slave. While probes running, user credential update, which requires restarting
probe, can be performed in turn onto the two probes, firstly slave probe, and
then master probe, leveraging on peer-to-peer... [More]

Hi, This article describes how you can easily add a new topology layer to IBM Tivoli Network Manager (ITNM) via the collector framework without having to use stitchers. ITNM's collectors provide a way of incorporating topology data into the discovery process from files, Element Management Systems, databases and so on. Collectors can also work in-parallel with ITNM's SNMP, Telnet & SSH based discovery capabilities that are typically used to obtain data directly from devices. ITNM v3.9 FP2 was used for this article. The scenario... [More]
