Within the OMNIbus Web GUI development team we are in the process of adding enhancements to the Event Viewer to provide functionality equivalent to the Active Event List.
The AEL has existed in some form for many years and hence contains a very large number of features. To help prioritise the work to be done in the Event Viewer, and also to help balance this work with development of other Web GUI components, it would help us to understand how important some of the AEL functions are to current users of the product.
The specific AEL... [More]
We product managers in IBM are an empathetic bunch. “Really?” thinks you the reader? Well, yes; I would think that we always have had a strong empathy with our IBM clients, their businesses and the critical role our Netcool solutions have played in their different IT Operations and Operational Support Systems. These Netcool solutions are, after all, very critical to their business success. Now, in the era of IBM Design Thinking, client empathy has been formally enshrined into the process of how we design our solutions,... [More]
Work has been undertaken recently within the OMNIbus Web GUI development team to provide various enhancements to the Event Viewer component of Web GUI 8.1. As part of an Agile development, several user stories were created in order to bring some of the additional capabilities of the AEL into the Event Viewer.
Demonstration videos have been created to show an early glimpse of these new features, and are posted in the Media Gallery on the IBM Netcool Operations Insight Open Development Community site:

There are many reasons why you might want to use more than one Tivoli Network Manager domain to discover your network. Maybe you have geographically separate networks that you want to discover at different times or with different settings. Maybe your network is just really big, and you can get a quicker discovery time by splitting it up into sections. In any case, you might still want the option to see all your devices in one topology view. But the Network Views show only one domain at a time. So what to do?
The wisdom of old within product management is that you always learn something new from customer visits. This has been given a specific focus by our friends in Pragmatic Marketing with their: “Nothing Important Happens In The Office – NIHITO” mantra as their driving principle; essentially, an exhortation for product management and the business to remain outwardly focused on customers and markets. I had the chance recently to learn anew when I visited a large global manufacturer in Europe. It was also a real insight and a... [More]
With IBM Tivoli Network Manager if a scopeless discovery is not used the DiscoScope configuration file can be very large. It can contain inclusions and exclusions. How can I tell if an IP address should pass through the DiscoScope and be discovered?
First create a new test stitcher. You don't have to name it after me.
Place it in $PRECISION_HOME/disco/stitchers
One of the most common questions in support of IBM Tivoli Network Manager is if I have a support matrix for various versions of ITNM with other components. This can be a rapidly changing matrix!
For this blog we are going to be looking at Tivoli Integrated Portal or TIP. I download my TIP components and attempted an install but it doesn't work.
FAIL: Installed ITNM 22.214.171.124 is not certified with tip126.96.36.199.
What versions or fixpacks of ITNM work with 188.8.131.52? Or will it work with ITNM 4.1.1?... [More]
