Last week, IBM DevOps Services was enriched with a new beta feature for tracking and planning. Not sure what will be the exact next of this new feature yet. Some refer to it at the Track and Plan, or the Agile Track&Plan. Other as the Agile Quick Planner.
Whatever the name used, the main objective is to make access to work items easier, and to better support Scrum teams in their project activities.
You are then asked to confirm and save your choice and that's it, the new feature is activated. You don't like it or you are not ready to adopt it yet on your project? Don't worry, it is super easy to disable the feature. Just go back to the same screen and uncheck the "Track and Plan" option. Voila!
When you access the new Track and Plan page, you will notice the different links on the left pane to access all your project artifacts.
Click Edit Sprint to quickly manage your different Sprints (names, dates)
Click Backlog to access the Product Backlog. You can review existing content but also add new Stories or Epics
My preferred view is the Sprint Planning view (accessible from the Sprint Planning link).
On the same page, I have my Backlog and my Sprints. I can reorder the backlog items (drag and drop) and put most important items on top,.
I can also easily move backlog items to a Sprint, and refine stories to add meaningful details. As everything is done on the cloud, it is a nice support for collocated or distrubuted teams during Sprint Planning activites.
The new Track and Plan does not prevent you from accessing project information "the old way". On the top right corner, the Track & Plan button provides an option to open the dashboard.
Then you have access to the customizable project dashboard with the different widgets and the menu bar to access Work Items and Plans.
Remember that the new Track and Plan is still a beta, so it will evolve over time to become even better. Give it a try now and share your feedback in our forum htt
