I did some measurements on the different crypto cards on z/OS, and the key lessons are
- I got a major reduction in CPU using a Crypto Express3 Coprocessor(feature 3C00)
- If you disable/enable it during the day it will impact the CPU cost - until MQ is restarted.
Using an application which does MQOPEN, MQPUT,MQGET,MQCLOSE with a 4000 byte non persistent message. I measured the CPU used in the different components. This was with MQ V9.
I had one Crypto Express3 Coprocessor and one Crypto Express3 Accelerator
setmqspl -m MQPA
Crypto Express3 Coprocessor enabled
Crypto Express3 Accelerator disabled
|Crypto Express3 Coprocessor disabled
Crypto Express3 Accelerator denabled
Where the times are in microseconds of CPU.
Without the Crypto Express3 Coprocessor card the AMS costs were much higher.
The Crypto Express3 Accelerator) had a small improvement 1-2%.
After the test I re-enabled the Crypto Express3 Coprocessor - and the costs were the same as if it was still disabled!!
I had to restart the queue manager, and the AMSM address space before the costs went down.
