We had a question from a customer asking if archive logs can use zEDC compression, to make them smaller.
As far as MQ is concerned this should make no difference.
I copied an archive log in one case with SMS set up to do zEDC compression, and a second case where there was no compression.
The output files were the same size.
The biggest gain was to use the best blksize.
Blksize of 24576 used 1500 tracks
Blksize of 28672 used 2600 tracks.
If your disks are filling up with archive logs, the see how long you keep them for. I recommend you need a day's worth of logs on DASD, older ones can be migrated. This assumes you are backing up your pagesets at least daily.
You will need the archived logs of you need to recover a page set.
