Primary Users of Rules Technology
For the past month or so I have been pondering how to describe the primary applications of rules technology on a compact but useful slide. If that sounds intriguing to you check out this post on javarules.org .

News Roundup
There are two analyst articles I'd like to point out today. The first is "Rules the IBM ILOG Way" by Simon Holloway from Bloor, and the second is "Business rules technology belongs in your architecture" by Mike Gualtieri from Forrester. Nothing groundbreaking if you follow this space, but both useful articles for newcomers. Slightly older (not sure how I missed this -- I must have my head down too much!) is Eric Charpentier's... Transforming PRR to IRL using M2M
Jean Bezivin and his team at Université de Nantes have published a paper on transforming PRR to IRL using model-to-model transformation techniques. This work presents a case study of implementing two business rule languages: Production Rule Representation (PRR) and ILOG Rule Language (IRL). We show how a pivot language can be translated into a concrete one with the help of model engineering. The outcome of this experiment also provides an... [Continue Reading]

JRules 7.0 -- Building for Speed
I've spent the last week analyzing JRules 7.0 Rule Studio build performance. The time it takes to build large rule projects can become a drain on productivity, and it is something we have worked hard on improving in JRules 7. The language team in particular are responsible for converting the business-level rule metaphors, like Action Rules and Decision Tables, to executable IRL code. They have made some great improvements in JRules 7.0, and... [Continue Reading]

Team Update
We are getting some nice reviews of BRMS V7.0 and some interesting articles generally. James Taylor has written two very nice pieces on V7 on his JT on EDM blog . James' deep knowledge of BRMS is evident, because he "just gets it"... :-) Billy Newport from the IBM WebSphere eXtreme Scale team has also been experimenting with deploying JRules within a fault-tolerant (replicated memory) grid architecture. I've never met Billy personally... [Continue Reading]
