Four Google engineers have been elected ACM Fellows. Their achievements are inspiring, congratulations to them all! What struck me most about their bios however was how AI dominated they were. We have: Prolog, machine learning, image processing, biological theory, matching, speech recognition, natural language processing, machine translation... A very healthy dose of what used to be known as AI. It is fascinating to imagine what advances will be made over the next decade, as engineers get their hands on "Internet scale" data sets and computing resources. Cloud computing will be very important for AI as it allows one to spin up compute resources to process very large data sets cheaply, and consumer devices (phones, tablets, GPS, RFID etc.) and websites are giving us increasing amounts of data and realtime events to process.
