Yes, I really mean that you will be able to write an entire program in free-form RPG!
Most ILE RPG programmers will recall how much their programming lives changed when free-form calculations were introduced early this century. It's so much easier to code, read, and modify free-form calculations. We're hoping that this additional free-form syntax will have the same benefits for RPG programmers.

If you have ever tried to teach RPG to a non-RPG programmer, you are probably familiar with the cries of surprise and horror when they delete a blank on a D spec or F spec and it causes the editor to issue a page full of bizarre error messages. Now, when you're teaching someone RPG, you'll be able to concentrate on RPG itself, and not have to spend too much time on the syntax.
If you're wondering about embedded SQL, the SQL precompiler will have full support for the new free-form syntax. Watch for Scott Hanson's blog post in the
Enjoy your new freedom!
