We have had the Global Services offering "Performance Management for AIX" server for years (even decades) - it gets shorten to "PM for AIX" or "PM for Power Systems" which sounds like a "Prime Minister for the Electricity Board" to English people! Anyway, briefly this offers:
"IN MY HUMBLE OPINION"
The new "opportunity" is this service gets switched on when you install AIX 6.1 TL06 SP3 and AIX 7.1 TL 00 SP2 and presumably later levels of AIX. It does this without asking. The first the AIX user knows is that they get an odd email from IBM - see below. Obviously, some marketing person thought this was a great way for the service to show its capabilities but the mistake was that we did not tell anybody in advance and techies really don't like surprises - like machines doing things unexpectedly.
The email looks like this:
To the contact named on the HMC (we think)

For new AIX releases the following steps switch it off:
It is fairly simple but here is a worked example
# smitty topas
Move down to "List active Recordings"
Yes there is a recording taking place - we need to check if this is sending data and then switch it off. Use Escape+3 (or Function3) to get to the top menu.
Select "Stop Recording" + ENTER
Select "Stop Persistent Recording" (this means it is started every day) + ENTER
Select "Stop Persistent local Binary Recording" (local means just this AIX) + ENTER
Here we see the recording has "PM Service = Enabled" - change to disabled with the TAB key.
It displays "Disabled" then hit ENTER
It wants you to confirm you mean this - so confirm by hitting ENTER again
It reports that it worked.
I hope this helps, thanks, Nigel Griffiths.
