The primary reason for the excessive installation time on x86 is associated with database creation and configuration as you have pointed out. <br /> Fragmented filesystem or sparse disk image or the combination of NFS and spares files can cause slower performance. <br /> Another culprit could be the I/O scheduler. <br /> To try to correct the problem, you could defrag the drive or config the I/O scheduler for noop.
