When we start talking about SSL problems on WebSphere MQ (WMQ), it can be an intimidating topic. Many people do not understand SSL configuration and when they have problems related to SSL they just do not know where to start. Even for the short list of people who do understand SSL configuration in WMQ, troubleshooting a problem can sometimes be a difficult task. In WMQ V7.x, many of the SSL related problems we see are dealing with Java™ or JMS configurations. With this in mind, we have created a technote which we think will help with the problem. We have taken the most common causes of problems in WMQ V7 Java and JMS SSL and documented them. For each problem we have identified the most likely symptoms you will see in your logs, which will help you identify whether this is your problem or not. Then for each of the common causes, we provided the most likely solution to that problem.
To start out, for any of these problems it would be a good idea if you have two things:
With your AMQxxxx error messages in one hand and your JMSxxxx messages in the other, you should be able to quickly sort through the tables to find which problem matches your symptoms. We have included example exception stacks also, to help you identify a match to the symptoms you encounter. Once you have matched your symptoms to the ones associated with a specific problem, then we have a short and simple solution that is the most likely remedy to your problem. Of course this will not solve 100 percent of the SSL problems you might encounter when dealing with WMQ but it is an attempt to take care of the most common problems with the most common solutions. Here is a link to the technote containing the list of problems and solutions so you can go check it out or bookmark it, in case you have SSL problems: Troubleshooting Java/JMS SSL Configurations
If you encounter an SSL problem that is not in the list and you want us to add another entry to the tables that we have there, you can leave feedback either here on the blog or on the technote and we will investigate to see if we can add that problem. Also, if you have any other topics you would like to have us discuss, please let us know or if you just want to leave feedback in general, "Remember, We Still Love Your Feedback!"
