If you haven't already done so, you should check out the CICS Transaction Server for z/OS (CICS TS) V5.2 open beta offering. The CICS TS V5.2 open beta offering was made available on February 22 and you can download it at: http
Here's a summary of some of the features of the open beta offering:
These are all great enhancements and I think the "multiple installed versions of applications" (under the "Cloud enablement" section for "Lifecycle management") is one area that will be huge! It's kind of like NEWCOPY for programs, but much more versatile since you can have more than one version of an application installed in a CICS region. It allows you to better manage updates to applications, including version updates, fixes, etc. And if something goes wrong with your application fix, you can quickly revert to a previous version. Matthew Webster has more details on this in his blog entries:
So I'd encourage you to take some time and try out the CICS TS V5.2 open beta offering and provide any feedback that you have through the CICSdev forum (there is no support through the normal support channels for the CICS TS V5.2 open beta offering).
Along with the open beta offering "code", you can read about the offering in the "CICS TS V5.2 open beta Knowledge Center". The Knowledge Center is also in beta and it will soon replace the individual information centers, combining all of this content into one place. Over 2500 products have their documentation in Knowledge Center and you can search across multiple products at one time, drill down to a specific product, save collections, and much more. If you haven't looked at the Knowledge Center yet, this is a great time to do so since you can provide feedback (right within the Knowledge Center) to both the CICS TS V5.2 open beta offering documentation and the Knowledge Center beta. Plus, you can become familiar with the new structure and features of the Knowledge Center and be ready when it is Generally Available (GA). Theresa Hamilton has a good blog entry on the Knowledge Center beta called "Join the IBM Knowledge Center Open Beta now through the end of February 2014!" Even though the title of Theresa's blog entry says "...through the end of February", the Knowledge Center is still currently in beta. The URL for the Knowledge Center (with all products) will remain the same once the Knowledge Center is out of beta and is GA, so it's a good URL to bookmark or tag: http
