CICS Explorer not only lets you connect to CICS regions, and z/OS through FTP, but it also is a platform for installing plugins for other tools. This blog entry shows how to get each of the plugins on the IBM CICS Explorer downloads site installed inside the CICS Explorer 1.1 - once you've done this you can get a perspective bar with lots of cool things running together.
First thing is to know where to get the plugins from - if you follow the link from CICS Explorer that lets you go to the downloads page, you will see a number of links to get plugins in the OtherDownloads section:
Once you've got the one you're interested in you will have a .zip file. To get this into the CICS Explorer you go to the pulldown Help menu, and select Install New Software. There are two problems you will encounter - what do I point the install dialog to in relation to the .zip file I just got, and also why does it say stuff is uncategorized.
The first thing you have to do is point the Install dialog at the thing you just downloaded. Do this by pressing the Add button which will bring up a dialog asking you to add the repository.
For the File Manager plugin, or the CICS plugins Interdependency Analyzer (IA), Configuration Manager (CM), Transaction Gateway (TG), Performance Analyzer (PA) and Deployment Assistant (DA) select the Archive button and point it to the .zip file you downloaded. This is because the update site is fully contained in the zip download. Then press OK.
For Application Performance Analyzer (APA) and Fault Analyzer (FA) you don't do this - you will need to have beforehand unzipped the .zip file you downloaded.
APA will unzip to a structure like this:
Point the selector in the Archive button at the apa_gui_plugin.
FA will unzip to a structure like this:
Point the selector in the Archive button at the IDIPlugin
For some of the plugins, such as APA, FM, FA, APA and IA 3.1 in CICS Explorer 1.1 you see a "There are no categorized items" on the install dialog. If this occurs you need to uncheck the checkbox labelled "Group items by category" and you will then see the feature to install. An example of the type of screen you might see is shown below, for APA,
If you get this kind of experience on your install uncheck the checkbox "Group items by category" and it will now show you the plugin feature
You can then select it and do the install as beforehand.
