Accelerate with ATS: z/OS with DS8870 Synergy - HyperPAV, zHPF and I/O Priority Manager IBM continues to innovate and build synergies with its flagship enterprise disk system, the DS8870 and z/OS.  Join us for this fast paced session where we will discuss recent enhancements to System z High Performance FICON and how your applications and DB2 can benefit when coupled with the DS8870.  We also will be covering I/O Priority Manager and its interaction with workload manager. Finally we will cover HyperPAV and what it can do to further reduce the IOSQ component in your I/O response time and increase I/O rate.

Abstract:  Today’s TS7760 mainframe virtual tape systems are direct descendants of IBM’s very first virtual tape server, the 3494-B16 which became generally available on June 27, 1997.  Over the past 21+ years, most of the virtual tape deployments have worked extremely well, but some could have been done better.  The only thing worse than making a mistake is not learning from it.  Join us for a review of the best practices that we’ve learned in the field related to architecting, configuring, and operating these solutions.  The session will be interactive as we’re always looking for ideas and contrasting opinions to better refine our advice and recommendations.

IBM Easy tier enables DS8700 Users to Optimize Use of Solid State Drives

Solid state drives (SSDs) are a hot topic in IT organizations because of their potential to dramatically improve storage performance. An inhibitor to general adoption has been how to effectively and efficiently use SSDs relative to the cost of SSDs vs HDDs. IBM DS8700 users now have the tools in Easy Tier and its associated Storage Tier Advisor Tool to evaluate the benefits, plan for, deploy, and manage on an ongoing basis SSDs in combination with existing HDDs.

 

This session will focus on the continual workload analysis of the no charge Easy Tier function on the DS8700 along with the Storage Tier Advisor Tool to dynamically manage the appropriate placement of data on SSDs or HDDs based on the actual I/O patterns measured.

This presentation and demo will familiarize you with the TS7700 Performance Analysis Tools now available on Techdocs. Accelerate with ATS: OpenStack - Storage in the Open Cloud Ecosystem
OpenStack is the major Open Source Infrastructure-as-a-service (IAAS) platform that is used to build open cloud computing environments. The OpenStack project is backed by IBM as well as almost all key players in the IT industry.
Starting with explaining cloud computing terminology, then providing information about the OpenStack project, this webinar will provide an comprehensive overview how IBM is involved in the OpenStack project and what role (IBM) Storage plays within OpenStack environments.
We will will focus on the technical details of the OpenStack Storage architecture and how IBM storage systems tie into that including a live demo of a real-world OpenStack cluster with IBM storage solutions attached.  We will also address the OpenStack Cinder Block Volume Service that is used to provision persistent storage to VMs running within an OpenStack Cluster including lessons the presenter learned when building a real-world OpenStack cluster with Storage attachment.
