Accelerate with ATS: LTO5 SkipSync Webinar Tuesday February 22nd 2011 at 11:00 ET
The IBM® System StorageTM TS1050 is an IBM LTO Ultrium 5 Tape Drive that combines IBM tape reliability and performance at open systems prices.
This Customer Oriented Webinar will demo SkipSync which is an IBM exclusive feature on the IBM LTO 5 drive.
The 3592 family of tape drives has had the performance advantage of Virtual Backhitch for many years. Now the LTO family has a similar performance enhancement. SkipSync is easy to implement; and for the right workload can provide a significant performance improvement.
Jeff Ziehm from the Advanced Technical Skills Organization will present an overview of LTO5 SkipSync, show how to implement it, and demonstrate its performance improvement.
Accelerate with ATS: New Hardware Extensions for SVC CG8 Nodes
This session will explore hardware extension options for SAN Volume Controller CG8 nodes. This will include information on an available extra Fibre Channel HBA for increased SAN connectivity as well as information about the new "chubby" node upgrade, which allows an extra CPU and 24 GB of memory for Real Time Compression processing. Information will be included on options, function and proper use.

ABSTRACT:The IBM Storwize V7000 is a new
midrange storage system providing modular scalability allowing you to start
small and add disk capacity as your business needs dictate. The base integrated
software functions include Thin Provisioning; which allows allocation of
physical disk capacity only when data is written; Volume Mirroring; which
allows for redundant synchronized copies of the data to exist for local high
availability; FlashCopy; which allows for up to 256 point-in-time copies of
your data to be created for various tasks; Easy Tier which automatically
exploits solid state drives (SSDs) for optimal performance of your business
applications; and storage tiering via the nondisruptive data migration
capability of this new system. In addition; the Storwize V7000 can virtualize
external storage from various vendors and replicate data between up to four
Storwize V7000 systems to meet your Disaster Recovery and Business Continuance
requirements. Based on the proven SAN Volume Controller virtualization system
we have taken the best features from our storage portfolio and built a midrange
storage system that can help simplify management of the explosive growth of
data your business is experiencing.

What: Performance Analysis Tools for the TS7700 Virtualization Engine Class and Demo This presentation and demo will familiarize you with the TS7700 Performance Analysis Tools now available on Techdocs. The class will provide an overview of the tools and the data collection requirements to assist in the evaluation of the TS7700 performance. Spreadsheets for both a 90 day evaluation and a 24 hour evaluation will be covered. The class includes several practical examples of how the tools were used in real life situations. The class will also provide a demonstration of populating the VEHSTATS data into the spreadsheet tools. This class is intended for experienced TS7700 users. A detailed knowledge of the TS7700 is expected as well as familiarity with using spreadsheets.
When: This session has been completed, in the event that you missed it you can still benefit from it by reviewing the materials.
IBM ProtecTIER’s revolutionary deduplication technology can be used to dramatically increase backup and recovery performance.
IBM ProtecTIER® featuring revolutionary and patented HyperFactor® data deduplication technology can provide enterprise-class performance; scalability; and proven enterprise-level data integrity.IBM ProtecTIER® native replication enables customers to replicate virtual tape cartridges to a remote location for enhanced disaster recovery and business continuity. This fast paced Webinar will cover data deduplication concepts; implementation of ProtecTIER Virtual Tape Library (VTL) for backup and recovery; and use of IBM ProtecTIER® native replication in a Spoke and Hub design.
IBM Easy tier enables DS8700 Users to Optimize Use of Solid State Drives
drives (SSDs) are a hot topic in IT organizations because of their potential to
dramatically improve storage performance. An inhibitor to general adoption has
been how to effectively and efficiently use SSDs relative to the cost of SSDs
vs HDDs. IBM DS8700 users now have the tools in Easy Tier and its associated
Storage Tier Advisor Tool to evaluate the benefits, plan for, deploy, and
manage on an ongoing basis SSDs in combination with existing HDDs.
will focus on the continual workload analysis of the no charge Easy Tier
function on the DS8700 along with the Storage Tier Advisor Tool to dynamically
manage the appropriate placement of data on SSDs or HDDs based on the actual
I/O patterns measured.
Title: IBM System Storage TS3500 Tape Library update Broadcast date: Tuesday July 20th 2010
IBM System Storage™ TS3500 Tape Library is designed to provide a highly
scalable; automated tape library for mainframe and open systems backup
and archive in midrange to enterprise environments. In this session
we'll review TS3500 basics as well as the April 2010 enhancements to
the TS3500. A few of the enhancements that we'll discuss are LTO5
support; the new High Density frames; Library firmware version basics;
Advanced Library Management System (ALMS); Command Line Interface(CLI);
floating home cell and mixed media support.
Replay: Proactive Performance Management with TPC Broadcast date: March 11th 2010 at 12:00 ET
This one hour webinar presents a Performance Management methodology using Tivoli Storage Productivity Center (TPC). It is a technical “drill-down” from the more general principles of Computer System Management to an overview of TPC capabilities. It covers the key TPC reports for management and then drills down to performance and capacity planning techniques and finally some approaches to workload characterization and troubleshooting storage performance problems.
Replay: Accelerate with ATS: Tape Encryption with Tivoli Key Lifecycle Manager (TKLM) Date: Tuesday 21st September 2010 Time: 12:00 - 1:30 ET Tape Encryption is one of the hottest topics in storage today. This session will overview IBM’s Tape Encryption solution and discuss the key design decisions necessary for a successful tape encryption implementation. New enhancements in TKLM v2 will also be covered. Please plan on attending this very informative 90 minute session. Feedback: "It is a shame that we do not sell this class to every client that purchases a disk array from IBM...my client...felt that the class was worth him breaking away from performance problems at his site and gathering the necessary knowledge to better understand how to prevent future problems." NY, Storage FTSS
This course is also terrific for IBMers who manage data centers for outsourced accounts as well as services personnel who do billable disk performance analysis engagements for clients with TPC for Disk. The course, developed by Dr. Brian Smith of ATS, is taught in Canada by Brian Sherman of ATS and Paul Moretto of System Software Technical Sales Support, and in the US by Dr. Brian Smith and Dominic Pruitt of ATS.
