Accelerate with ATS: DS8000 with SVC Best Practices
Tuesday 11th January 2011 at 12:00 ET
This will be a technical discussion covering best practice considerations for IBM DS8000 attached to the IBM San Volume Controller. Availability; manageability and performance implications will be considered as we discuss SVC and DS8000 components and capabilities; including Solid State Disks and EasyTier management of the SSDs.
ABSTRACT:This session will cover the IBM Scale Out Network Attached Storage (SONAS) Gateway for XIV. SONAS is a new enterprise Network Attached Storage system providing modular scalability allowing you to add disk capacity and performance as your business needs dictate. The base integrated software functions include NAS Gateway to IBM XIV external storage; File system Mirroring; which allows for redundant synchronized copies of the data to exist for local high availability; Asynchronous Mirroring; which allows remote copies of the data to exist for Business Continuance and Disaster Recovery; Snapshots; which allows for up to 256 point-in-time copies of your data to be created for various tasks. Automatic Storage Tiering; which allows automatic placement or migration of files on to different tiers of disk (SAS/Nearline SAS) within the file system when data is written or migrated. In addition integration with IBM Tivoli Storage Manager allows for Hierarchal Storage Management and accelerated backups.

ABSTRACT:The IBM Storwize V7000 is a new
midrange storage system providing modular scalability allowing you to start
small and add disk capacity as your business needs dictate. The base integrated
software functions include Thin Provisioning; which allows allocation of
physical disk capacity only when data is written; Volume Mirroring; which
allows for redundant synchronized copies of the data to exist for local high
availability; FlashCopy; which allows for up to 256 point-in-time copies of
your data to be created for various tasks; Easy Tier which automatically
exploits solid state drives (SSDs) for optimal performance of your business
applications; and storage tiering via the nondisruptive data migration
capability of this new system. In addition; the Storwize V7000 can virtualize
external storage from various vendors and replicate data between up to four
Storwize V7000 systems to meet your Disaster Recovery and Business Continuance
requirements. Based on the proven SAN Volume Controller virtualization system
we have taken the best features from our storage portfolio and built a midrange
storage system that can help simplify management of the explosive growth of
data your business is experiencing.

DS8800: Delivering storage efficiency to help our clients get the most from your storage resources
The DS8800 is IBM's 4th generation DS8000. The hardware refresh is built on the same market-proven IBM POWER architecture of the previous generations and provides our clients with better performance, greater space and energy efficiency. All this while continuing to deliver the same outstanding reliability and reputation our Enterprise customers expect of IBM. This session will cover the new hardware and solutions covering application integration, automated tiered storage and scale-out capabilities that enables our clients to manage their storage growth without complexity.

Abstract: The ProtecTIER Solutions
are designed to deliver in-line data de-duplication and replication with
industry leading performance and scalability for both the midrange and
enterprise data center.
If you have a need to understand the basics of the TS7650G as well as
the new TS7610 and where they fit in your environment then this session
is for you. This session will cover the fundamentals of de-duplication
and replication. We’ll also discuss the steps necessary to size the
Replay: Accelerate with ATS: Tape Encryption with Tivoli Key Lifecycle Manager (TKLM) Date: Tuesday 21st September 2010 Time: 12:00 - 1:30 ET Tape Encryption is one of the hottest topics in storage today. This session will overview IBM’s Tape Encryption solution and discuss the key design decisions necessary for a successful tape encryption implementation. New enhancements in TKLM v2 will also be covered. Please plan on attending this very informative 90 minute session. Title: IBM System Storage TS3500 Tape Library update Broadcast date: Tuesday July 20th 2010
IBM System Storage™ TS3500 Tape Library is designed to provide a highly
scalable; automated tape library for mainframe and open systems backup
and archive in midrange to enterprise environments. In this session
we'll review TS3500 basics as well as the April 2010 enhancements to
the TS3500. A few of the enhancements that we'll discuss are LTO5
support; the new High Density frames; Library firmware version basics;
Advanced Library Management System (ALMS); Command Line Interface(CLI);
floating home cell and mixed media support.
This presentation will introduce the industry leading storage device based on SAS II (6Gbps) host and drive connectivity. The DS3500 will support SAS II, SAS II with iSCSI, or SAS II with Fibre Channel host connectivity. The Drive back end loops are all SAS II (6 Gbps) which with SAS II technology can produce up to 24 Gbps per loop. We have merged the host connectivity of the DS3200 (SAS I), DS3300 (iSCSI), and DS3400 (Fibre Channel) into one new product (DS3500). We will discuss the different controller models (DS3512 & DS3524), expansion enclosures (EXP3512 & EXP3524), 2.5 inch, 3.5 inch drives, new Storage Manager, and new premium features available on the DS3500.
SGA07 (SGA07CE in Canada) Storage Subsystem Performance, Monitoring and Capacity Planning is a popular IBM Education Course. This course provides in depth coverage of material introduced in the March 11th Webinar Proactive Performance Management with TPC

IBM Easy tier enables DS8700 Users to Optimize Use of Solid State Drives
drives (SSDs) are a hot topic in IT organizations because of their potential to
dramatically improve storage performance. An inhibitor to general adoption has
been how to effectively and efficiently use SSDs relative to the cost of SSDs
vs HDDs. IBM DS8700 users now have the tools in Easy Tier and its associated
Storage Tier Advisor Tool to evaluate the benefits, plan for, deploy, and
manage on an ongoing basis SSDs in combination with existing HDDs.
will focus on the continual workload analysis of the no charge Easy Tier
function on the DS8700 along with the Storage Tier Advisor Tool to dynamically
manage the appropriate placement of data on SSDs or HDDs based on the actual
I/O patterns measured.

XIV Storage System features its innovative, proven and high performance
snapshot-based technology for asynchronous mirroring. See for yourself how easy
it is to use XIV asynchronous replication for disaster recovery or for creating
remote copies for backup, testing or reporting.
webinar provides an overview of the asynchronous mirroring function and
introduces some user scenarios for disaster recovery, disaster recovery
testing, and creating remote copies. There is also a demonstration of some of these scenarios using the
excellent XIV graphic user interface.
Replay: Proactive Performance Management with TPC Broadcast date: March 11th 2010 at 12:00 ET
This one hour webinar presents a Performance Management methodology using Tivoli Storage Productivity Center (TPC). It is a technical “drill-down” from the more general principles of Computer System Management to an overview of TPC capabilities. It covers the key TPC reports for management and then drills down to performance and capacity planning techniques and finally some approaches to workload characterization and troubleshooting storage performance problems.
