Can you believe that social networking has only been around for only eighteen years? Geocities was founded in 1994 and was one of the first social working sites ever created. The website gave users the ability to create their own website. Next big milestone was in 1997 when AOL instant messenger was created, a service that I still use today. MySpace was launched in 2003 and become more popular than its predecessor, Friendster, which was the original social networking site. Just one year later, Facebook was launched at Harvard University to link college students and they became accessible to the public in 2006. That same year, Twitter was launched and gave new meaning to the words “trending” and “hash tag.” I wonder what’s can possibly be the next evolution for social networking.
