Connecting to Maximo with a Proxy, are users being signed out immediately?
I was recently working an issue where a reverse proxy was configured with Maximo using IBM Edge. After the proxy was configured all users logging into Maximo via the proxy were being automatically redirected to the sign-out page (exit.jsp). I ran several tests, including logging in with the same users via the IHS and the Web Container port directly. The users could log in fine this way, so the problem appeared by be directly related to the proxy. Maximo has a table called LOGINBLOCK , this table contains IP addresses that have been... [More]

Fun with Linear Assets Part 3
Hi again! Now that we've looked at what linear assets are and a case study for their use......... We know that linear assets..... Are defined by length Can accurately depict assets that are defined by their length Length of assets impact maintenance and work against the assets They have start and end points that are defined by units of measure Can be broken down into defined segments and reference points Because of these unique characteristics, linear assets can have useful applications across many businesses. As we... [More]

VMMSYNC workings and how to look at debug logs.
QUICK OVERVIEW ......... If you know how it works and just want to look at logging, look below for 'Basic Debugging' VMMSYNC is a crontask provided within Maximo products. As with all crontasks it can be set to run at regular intervals. The crontask makes contact with a component of WebSphere called VMM (Virtual Member Manager) via API calls. The calls will be actioned against a federated repository and will request information on users, groups and group assignments from within the federated repository. The... [More]

Date field calculation issue when using Daylight Savings in MAXIMO
Daytime and Date field calculation issue when using Daylight Savings in MAXIMO When using daylight savings option in MAXIMO, bug occurs in date and date time calculation where 1 hour is added or deducted from the date, and this can result in completely different date when 1 hour is deducted from 00:00, so it becomes 23:00 on the previous date. This bug affects all applications in MAXIMO including the Invoices and Scheduler, where it can create numerous issues, since dates will not be aligned and transactions can get registered in... [More]

Using WebSphere 8.5.5 Migration Tool with Maximo 7.5 (part 2): Using the Migration tools
Continuing from my last blog posting , the next step is to migrate your profiles. Today's entry is pretty much going to be a step-by-step how to migrate the existing Deployment Manager profile, using out-of-the-box (OOB) Maximo 7.5. Your own environment is more complex than out-of-the-box Maximo, so this will be easy. Let's start! 1. First, shut down IBM HTTP and IBM WAS 7.0 services, and change their startup Type to manual. Then, restart the server. Even though you'll be given a chance to back up your profiles in the Migration... [More]

Getting excited about installation!
I gave a presentation on IBM Installation Manager a couple of days ago. We recently released an Interim Release Fix for both Maximo (version 7.5.0.5 and later only) and SmartCloud Control Desk (version 7.5.1.1 and later only) This release includes WebSphere 8.5.5. (See the Tivoli Process Automation Engine Product Coexistence Matrix 7.5.x . for product versions supported on WebSphere 8.5.5). WAS 8.5.5 is installed with IBM Installation Manager, which is different than any of our other installers (we use it for Maximo Anywhere), but it... [More]

My collection of Maximo 7.5 Performance Technotes
Once in a while I'll get questions about performance problems. Specific scenarios can be resolved by applying Interim Fixes or adding indexes. Those critical and urgent problems often happen throughout the entire system. Here is a collection of performance related recordings and technotes that might help: Install Performance Monitor... From the Maximo Support Desk - Using Routes and the Work Order Multi Asset, Location and CI Table to Reduce Latency During Record Operations
If you read my previous, and first post to this forum, you learned that one of the cool things about being an IBM support engineer is that I get a small window into my customers' worlds throughout the day. I also mentioned that I support a lot of Maximo Users in the utilities industry and I recently had the pleasure of speaking to one such utilities client who presented a scenario that was pretty interesting. I'm sharing this particular client situation to hopefully illustrate that sometimes a second set of eyes, and few subtle... [More]

Getting Table/Crossover domains work in a Multi Language environment.
The domain application in Maximo is used for creating different domains in Maximo and two of these domain types enable you to validate and bring over data from other tables. This blog entry does not teach you how to use the Table and Crossover domains, rather it tells you how to get these two domains to work when looking up data from a table with Multi Language in use. Due to the way Maximo handles Multi language functionality, you run into problems if you try to list and bring back data from a column that is Multi Language enabled. To... [More]

What are Fixpacks, Interim Fixes and Limited Availability Fixes?
After posting my last blog ' What you always wanted to know about hotfixes... ', our L3 (Level 3) manager sent me some really excellent and detailed information about the definition and attributes of Fixpacks, Interim Fixes and Limited Availability fixes. I want to share this information with you here: FIXPACK Fixpacks deliver product defect fixes that have undergone a full development release cycle and the most extensive QA testing of all maintenance releases. The fixes delivered are for... [More]
