Maximo - Table Lock on SIBOWNER & SIBOWNERO causing all JVM's in the cluster to not respond.
Customers from time to time have noticed that the Maximo system stops responding. When the environment is reviewed, the database has locks on SIB related tables. This is a case where the issue is not primarily because of SIB tables but due to the fact that the SIB tables are the victim of Maximo system freezing and holding locks on the SIB tables. If Maximo integration components are writing to JMS Queues using the database storage, then SIB tables are created and used in the database. Whenever Maximo writes data or reads data from... [More]

Maximo Reorder Calculation
In Maximo, reorder quantity is calculated by this formula: Order Quantity = [(ROP + 1) –Quantity on Order –Available Balance] Y = Order Quantity / Economic Order Quantity (EOQ) X = Next whole number integer of Y Reorder Quantity = X * EOQ Let me give an example how it works: 1. Create an testing item and set the Reorder parameters 1.1. Create ITEM1000 in ITEM Master application 1.2. Add ITEM1000 to Storeroom CENTRAL 1.3. Set current balance as 10 1.4. Activate the item in Organization and tick Roll New Status to... [More]

Maximo Upgrade Tips: Decreasing the downtime when upgrading Maximo 7.5.0.8 to Maximo 7.6.0.1
With the release of Maximo Fix Pack 7.6.0.1 , among other things, it offers the new feature that you will be able to reduce downtime when running updatedb. The link below contains the steps in how to take advantage of this new feature: http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21902458 But if you go through the steps of the scenario described there, the first problem that you could face is that the Step 2 won't work when you are coming from a 7.5.0.8 version. This is because when you perform the upgrade from Maximo 7.5.0.8 to... [More]

Installing Maximo 7.6 on Redhat Linux 6.6 (Part two of three)
Continuing from here ... Let's go through a few screens here. The interface doesn't look very different than running the Installer in Windows. License terms... Next > Install Locations... Next > More Install Locations... Next > Installation features... Next > More on Install features... Next > Now, watch out on this next screen. I am not using a complex password for DB2. This means that later I cannot use a restrictive policy when configuring application security. I'll show it again there. (Thanks to Don Woodward... [More]

Installing Maximo 7.6 on Redhat Linux 6.6 (Part one of three)
From Passport Advantage, download the Maximo Asset Management 7.6 installation files for your OS. There will be five: one for Maximo, one for DB2, and three for WebSphere. Go to Maximo Asset Management 7.6 and Maximo Asset Management Multitenancy 7.6 , which lists file sets for each OS. I moved all of the .tar.gz files from \root\DownloadDirector to a new directory (\root\instl) and expanded them there. I then pulled out everything from the five folders and put them into \instl. Then I deleted the folders and tar.gz files. This is what... [More]

Configuring Maximo for Use with Microsoft's Office 365 Email Service
[Note: Updated 12/12/2018 to add firewall authentication error to the troubleshooting section.] Configuring Maximo for use with web- or rather, using the term du jour, cloud-based email services is not appreciably different from service to service. On this blog we've covered configuring Maximo to connect to both Google's GMail and Microsoft's Live.com . We'll cover this for Microsoft's Office 365 Email. This configuration is essential the same as Live.com. Additionally, we'll go over a few... [More]

Maximo and LDAP : Repository performance and user synchronization
It's been awhile since my last blog post and even longer since the last one I did regarding LDAP security. Recently I've had a couple users come to me and ask why it takes time for changes made to the directory to show up in WebSphere. For example: If I move my user 'cn=updateuser, ou=maximo users, ou=swg, dc=mxeam13, dc=torolab, dc=ibm, dc=com' to another organization unit such as 'cn=updateuser, ou=support, ou=swg, dc=mxeam13, dc=torolab, dc=ibm, dc=com' . You won't see this change... [More]
