Configuration for Filtering with Application ID and Sigoption ID within Applications Tab of Security Groups
By default, Maximo (or Control Desk) Security Groups application has a tab named Applications, which is used in order to grant Signature Options per application. We filter the applications and their signature options by their descriptions in this tab. But, we usually tend to memorize applications and the signature options by their IDs, i.e. App ID for Work Order Tracking application is wotrack . There are also many default or custom signature options defined for Work Order Tracking application such as READ , DUPLICATE , REPFACILITY , WMLINEAR... [More]

Object Level Configurative Action and Exception Structure similar to Automation Scripts (v7.1)
Maximo/Control Desk product introduced Automation Scripts instead of Java customizations on version 7.5 and enhanced the scripting functionality on version 7.6. Yet, there are many customer environments which have not been upgraded to latest versions. The following customization had been created for a customer environment which was in version 7.1. The aim of this development is to present a generic and configurative structure to replace and prevent continuous Java customization. 1. Adding the custom business objects to hold restriction... FREE Maximo Education and Open Badges
FREE Maximo Education and Open Badges Note the very important word FREE . I'll say that again, nice and loud and in a pretty colour (I'm English so I'll spell things properly): FREE I had the pleasure of attending 2 weeks Maximo education in Austin, Texas way back in 2016. It was somewhat hotter than I am used to and people drive on the wrong side of the very wide roads for some strange reason. I listened carefully with the intention of bringing home some great technical and/or practical insight to share with my team back in the UK.... [More]

Debugging Maximo Anywhere Windows applications with Visual Studio
I thought I would start off this year blogging about a product I work with quite a bit and that is Maximo Anywhere, a mobile solution for Maximo Asset Management, which is currently at version 7.6.1. If you want more information on the product you can find it here . The Windows applications that were introduced starting with Maximo Anywhere 7.5.2.1 are supported on both Windows 8.1 and 10 (as of Anywhere 7.6), but can also be built from both those as well as Windows 2012 Server R2. So what if you don't have access... [More]

Tracking Ticket Status by Taking Calendar and Shift into Account
Ticket records, i.e. service requests (SR), incidents, problems, have historical status data stored in TKSTATUS table. The duration between status change dates is calculated on STATUSTRACKING field of TKSTATUS table. This calculation is a simple subtraction of two dates which ignores the Calendar and Working Time (Shift) of the person changing the status of ticket. Below, you can see the original dialog which is opened via View History option from Select Actions of ticket applications (sr, incident, problem applications). < dialog id =... [More]

Changing Ticket Owner to the New Assignee of Workflow Reassignment (v7.5 or v7.6)
If a ticket, i.e. service request, incident or problem, is in workflow; then it might have both workflow assignments and an owner set. Usually the owner is set parallel to the workflow assignment via actions in workflow. But, when we reassign the workflow assignment using the Reassign button of workflow dialogs, then owner remains as the old one and it should also be changed manually. We can use Automation Scripts for automating the manual change of ownership. We may... [More]

Personalizing Default and Visible Start Center Tabs on Maximo v7.1
Personalizing Start Center tabs for visible and default tabs is an improvement presented on version 7.5. Yet, with a simple xml customization same result can be achieved on version 7.1. Start Center Tabs are based on security groups, so it is an issue to personalize them for different users in same or different security groups in v7.1. System admins try to overcome this issue by duplicating security groups and start center templates and assigning different templates as default. The pop-up following the path Profile -> Personal Information... [More]

Customization to avoid the comma/dot separator in the integer value format on Start Center Result Sets
There is a technote on this issue which can be seen through this link. Let me quote the question from the technote: - When an attribute is defined as either smallint or Integer data type and shown in the screen, the value entered in the field shows like "1,300" Technote suggests to change user’s locale from system regional and language options. This is not a practical solution considering customer reality. A tiny customization can be an alternative solution. Resolution: The display is configured in the following jsp:... [More]

Fixing Display Options (Color) for Numeric Fields with Separator on Start Center Result Set Portlet
On Start Center Result Set Portlets, expressions for color codes do not work as intended for numeric fields, i.e. integer or decimal data type. The root cause of this issue is the thousands separator (dot or comma) for the numeric fields. The expression value for comparison is alphanumeric. Changing the field type to alphanumeric is not a solution since it does string comparison, i.e. compares hexadecimal values. Example: Assume we have two display options for an integer field such as; If field value < 1000, then color code = red If field... [More]
