Hi, Asset Health Insight 7.6.0.3 has been released! http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg22008648 I recently visited a factory with iot device attached to assets so work orders can be generated during certain condition. From the Maximo Support Desk - Domains Related To Asset Up and Down Status
I would like to explain the usage of the Asset Up and Asset Down Status, and also the ASSETSTATUS, LOCSTATUS, and LOCASSETSTATUS domains . Questions surrounding these components of the Maximo Assets application have been asked by some of my clients, so this likely means that more Maximo users must have made similar observations. Hopefully I can clarify this functionality here. A client recently inquired about two observations related to Domains: "I thought Maximo used to store Asset status changes in ASSETSTATUS table. But we noticed... [More]

Achieve EAM high-availability with DBaaS instead of operating a DR site
The most critical aspect of all production systems is being able to ensure high-availability in case of critical failures. The traditional approach was to a operate Disaster Recovery site and Fail-Over Clusters. This requires 24x7 maintenance and monitoring activities and adds the significant costs for hardware, software and human resources engaged. Due to this, many companies opt-out of having the high-availability for their EAM system. Thankfully, there is a new option with Database-as-a-Service offering being provided by all major... [More]

From the Maximo Support Desk - Population Of Classification Attributes On Child Classifications
Here is an issue that some Maximo users have encountered and they have asked me if this a bug. It seems like it could be, at first... The core functionality of Classifications (for Assets records) is to provide a detailed, hierarchical set of attributes which facilitate selection, preventive maintenance, purchasing, and other critical asset management functionality. This necessitates the ability in Maximo to allow extremely granular classification of asset records. The result is that you can build both very simple, and very complex... [More]

From the Maximo Support Desk - Index of articles by Tom Richardson, Support Engineer
Greetings from the Maximo support desk! I have the pleasure of speaking to several IBM Maximo clients each day, and I want to share some of my real world customer support cases from my role at IBM as a Level 2 Support Engineer. A former manager of mine used to interview candidates for technical support jobs by asking them, "Are you running FROM something, or are you running TO something?". There are many good answers to this question, but I've always considered myself to be running TO my various positions in technical client... [More]

From the Maximo Support Desk - The Functionality of the Question Mark Icon When It Appears With a Value in a Field
Here's a good question that I fielded from a Maximo User recently... "...I have a question about the question mark" Good Question... You may have noticed that, on occasion, a question mark icon appears in the field where you've entered a value in some Maximo applications. The shortest answer is... This is not necessarily an error message; this is a conditional GUI response to the value that has been entered in a field . If a value is entered, and is then persistently displayed along with a question mark, then this is a valid... [More]

Incorrect version information after installing Maximo 7.6.0.0 Interim Fixes.
It was recently brought to my attention by a customer who installed an Interim Fix for Maximo 7.6.0.0 that the Maximo Asset Management version number had been updated from Maximo 7.6.0.0 to 7.6.0.9. This was a cause for alarm which in term had them contact IBM to confirm the version of the application and look in to why it was showing incorrectly. After reviewing the system information which looked similar to the following, but not the same. (I don't have an environment with this versioning issue). Version Tivoli's... [More]
