Did you know that Maximo cron tasks have some built in fault tolerance? Did you know that where cron tasks run can be controlled? Did you know that by using built in functionality, you can manage load on any particular JVM server? It’s all there and it’s been there for a long time. Here we’ll tell you about best practices in using this function and about a brand new property in Maximo 7.6. As far back as 2005 cron tasks have had some fault tolerant capabilities. To understand them, you will... [More]
“Seemed like a nice round number”. These were the words Paul Newman
spoke as he committed to eating 50 hard boiled eggs in an hour in the infamous scene from the movie “Cool Hand Luke” While recently watching this classic movie – and Paul Newman’s stomach extend uncomfortably with the onslaught of the eggs – I couldn’t help but relate his adventure on how you can also extend QBR reports in Version 7 – comfortably. In previous Bilog entries, I’ve detailed how you can extend QBR reports to include long descriptions ,and audit enabled... [More]
It's been awhile since my last blog post and even longer since the last one I did regarding LDAP security. Recently I've had a couple users come to me and ask why it takes time for changes made to the directory to show up in WebSphere. For example: If I move my user 'cn=updateuser, ou=maximo users, ou=swg, dc=mxeam13, dc=torolab, dc=ibm, dc=com' to another organization unit such as 'cn=updateuser, ou=support, ou=swg, dc=mxeam13, dc=torolab, dc=ibm, dc=com' . You won't see this change... [More]

I was fired from my first job. I was 16 years old, working as a busboy for a busy restaurant in Buffalo when my boss told me to refill the ice in the salad bar. As I carried a large bucket filled with ice past the busy dinner crowd, I suddenly lost my grip. As the ice chips settled everywhere – in plates of hot lasagna, bread baskets and under the feet of waitresses - my boss icely told me to grab a mop and then head home. While I quickly learned that moving ice was not a viable career option for me…... [More]

Here's a nice trick question for you: when does 4+4+1 = 8? In this case, the answer is the number of downloadable files you need to complete an installation of WebSphere 8 when you plan to deploy Maximo 188.8.131.52 using WebSphere 8 as it's underlying J2EE Application Server. If you are planning a deployment of Maximo 184.108.40.206 on top of WebSphere 8 you will discover that the installation engine has changed from previous versions of WebSphere and that the downloadable files required to properly construct an installation source have also changed in...
