What's new in Migration Manager
Introduction IBM released Maximo 7.5 in April 2011. This release is built
on top of Tivoli
process automation engine (Tpae) 7.5. Tpae 7.5 provides a number of
improvements and enhancements in many different areas. One of the key Tpae
components with significant new features is Migration Manager. These features
were added based on customer input and experience using Migration Manager. The
goal in adding these new features is to accelerate migration package design and
the overall migration effort while reducing the implementation burden... [More]

Why manage Health, Safety and the Environment using Maximo?
A good place to start might be with some
definition of terms. There are a number of acronyms used to refer to the
management of health, safety and the environment. We have seen SHE, HSSE, HSE
and EHS all used by our customers. HSE just happens to be the terminology used
by IBM’s new Maximo Health, Safety and Environment Manager product. In this
blog I’ll refer to HSE Manager as the product and HSE as a generic acronym for
the domain that covers the management of health, safety and the environment.
That said, let’s consider why using... [More]

BiLog: Best Practices…Reuse ROS for Application Export Data Analysis
Reduce. Reuse. Recycle. Not only are these three words critical to insuring a sustainable environment, but they can also be critical to how we approach reporting. Reduce the number of custom reports you design, develop, test, administer and maintain. Reuse functionality to meet varying user business needs. Recycle what you have learned, and apply to existing and future releases T oday, I’m going to focus on reusing functionality - - specifically with Report Object Structures (ROS). A few... [More]

Two useful methods added to MXServer API
If you are a developer working with Maximo's MXServer API you may find the following public methods useful. They are exposed via the MXServerRemote interface and can be accessed through a static reference ... MXServer.getMXServer(). These methods are available in TPAE 7.5 and higher and also in fix packs 7.1.1.6 and higher. ___________________________________________________________________________________ public ArrayList getMboCounts() throws MXApplicationException This method returns an ArrayList of MboSet and Mbo counts. The Array... [More]

What do an airline, a national train operator and a global engine manufacture have in common?
What do an airline, a national train operator, and a global engine manufacture have in common? They probably have any number of things in common, but as
this is a Maximo blog I will focus on the fact that they are all using Maximo
Asset Configuration Manager (ACM) at the core of their business. You may be asking ‘why’ and ‘what does ACM
actually do’? And apart from using ACM, what else do these businesses have in
common? Complex

Critical operating environments Highly

BiLog: 75 Performance Enabler... Managing requests thru Report Schedule Limits
In the last few BiLog entries, I've talked about a variety of performance enablers, including Enabling Complex reports to be executed via schedules only at http://ibm.co/ov4ShP Defining‘non-peak server time’ when complex reports should be executed at http://ibm.co/qUYirf Setting record limits to minimize user data (process) overindulgences at http://ibm.co/qy6JbX While doing this, I’ve also brought in some analogies on enormous food buffets, and agonizing Boston Area Traffic.
Today, I'll build upon the performance enabler story by... [More]

High Availability for Tivoli's process automation engine based products
Are you interested in solutions that handle high availability for unplanned outages considering all the components of your Tivoli's process automation engine (Tpae) based product? The white paper "Providing High Availability for Tivoli Process Automation Engine based applications" is now available on the ISM Library at http://ibm.co/oeuy1c This paper explores high availability solutions for products based on Tpae. High availability solution for these products rely on the high availability of underlying components such as IBM... [More]

BiLog: Performance Enabler….Limiting Data Overindulgence thru Record Limits
Sitting here in my cube with my stomach growling at a increasingly rapid pace, I can’t help but think of how the Maximo database is like a food buffet. Those huge, long food buffets overflowing with food often found on a cruise ship, in Las Vegas, or if you’re lucky, at a neighbor’s open house. We often overindulge at these buffets, eating well over our capacity – because the food is there and we think we need it. Like buffets, Maximo users often have access to large amounts of data. And with this access, users may believe they need to... [More]
