Are you ready for: PAS 55 and ISO 55000 ? Maximo is !!!
The objective of this post is to bring awareness of an important topic for the EAM community that is being heavily discussed on the organizations Engineering forums but not as much as it should on the Asset Management organizations IT departments when going for EAM IT vendors. For those following the standards for Asset Management industry know that PAS 55 and ISO 55000 are getting close to become a reality and so are you ready to certify or get your customer certified ? For those running their EAM processes in IBM Maximo the good news is... [More]

Managing Fleets in Maximo ACM
What is a Fleet in ACM (Asset Configuration Manager) ? A Fleet is a (dynamic) list of end-items (Aircraft, Engines, Rail Vehicles etc) that have some form of common association, e.g. all the assets may have the same operator or owner, or may all be of a particular Model or Variation. The fleets that are created are then used in the Maximo ACM Fleet Usage Load application to facilitate the bulk data load of meters against a fleet of assets and, may also be used for reporting capability. Use Case: An OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) or an... [More]

Integration Framework Performance Tip: Turning off “Retain Mbo's” in Publish Channels
Ever faced performance problems when exporting large volumes of data using Publish Channels? Does these symptoms look familiar - "my export was working fine when I was doing in batches of 100 or 200 - but when I started doing 500 records at a time the performance degraded!" Maybe its a good time to look at your Publish Channel setup. Turning off “Retain Mbo's” is one such setup in the channel that might help you get better performance out of your data export. For more on this please refer to this link .

BiLog: Printer Relationships..Configuring Duplex Printing with Report Separation
I have a love-hate relationship with office printers. Our relationship flourishes when I remember its access code, and my printout waits patiently for me to pick it up. But our relationship plummets, when I hear beep…beep…beep, and the words ‘printer jam’ display. As I loudly disassemble the printer’s drawers and toner cartridge in a fruitless search of a mangled crumb of paper, my frustration and choice of vocabulary skyrockets. You may also have a complex relationship with your... [More]

Installing and Removing ACM Assets with the Maximo Integration Framework
Maximo Asset Configuration Manager (ACM) allows a complete history of the components which make up a complex a
Asset to be maintained and easily viewed for any given point in time. The ACM 7.5.0.1 patch introduced the ability to use the Maximo Integration Framework (MIF) to perform many ACM functions and load data into associated tables. One of the most common functions used within (ACM) is the and removal and installation of sub-assembly Assets. These operations are now achievable via the MIF and three separate transactions are possible: ... [More]

BiLog: March Madness and QBR Edit Business Rules
March Madness – two marvelous words with multiple meanings. It may have you rooting for your favorite team in the NCAA Basketball Tournamen t or waiting impatiently for your iPad 3 to arrive. It may have you joined in mass with others celebrating St Patrick’s Day , or anxiously waiting for Spring to finally arrive. Whatever your March Madness may involve, let's take a step back and review another March event - Pulse 2012. During the Reporting presentation at Pulse, we delved into the details of BIRT and Cognos reporting functionality,... [More]

BiLog: One Eyed Al….Data Restrictions and Reporting
One eyed Al rules a massive section of the Turner River in the midst of the Florida Everglades. While meticulously kayaking past the aptly named alligator on a recent morning, his enormous 12 foot length and massive, powerful jaw instantaneously communicated to us his control over all living beings on this portion of the river bed. And just as One Eyed Al restricts use of his area of the Turner River, you can enable data restrictions with BIRT reporting in the Version 7 releases to control what database records your individual... BiLog: Phenomenal Speeds...and V7 Report Comparison
Enabling speeds up to 186,000 miles per second, the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) houses the fastest racetrack in the world with protons traveling at 99.99999% the speed of light. Comparing this to the awe-inspiring space shuttle which blasts into space at 17,500 miles per hour, or 0.48 miles per second – and the race clearly belongs to LHC. From here, you could compare these magnificent enablers of scientific research in many different ways, including the costs and the time to build, number of... [More]

DB2 9.7 Statement Concentrator with STMM
The following blog entry was originally posted to the Process Automation Group by Bryan Tsai. I wanted to share this info with the Asset Management Group as well: Self Tuning Memory Manager (STMM) is a feature introduced since DB2 9 to get you out of memory tuning hell. It
allows DB2 instances to adjust all database shared memory (buffer
pools, sort heap, lock list, package cache, catalog cache, etc) to
improve the overall performance. By default, STMM is turned on. Overall, STMM works great for IBM Tivoli service management... [More]

Bilog: Poison Control and Understanding Subquery Complex Relationships in QBR
Veterinary Poison Control for Humans – How can I help you? This wasn’t the phone call I had planned to make early this morning when I accidentally swallowed my dog's arthritis medicine - instead of my daily vitamins. The folks at Pfizer were extremely non-judgmental and assured me that many other ‘humans’ had made this same mistake. They encouraged me to drink extra fluids today, and to work on more clearly separating the dog’s medicines from the human vitamins. As I was re-visiting this adventure on my drive into work – I thought... [More]
