Would you like to mix and mingle with status workflow?
Sometimes it is required for child work orders to inherit one parent status (for example APPR) while not inheriting another (for example, INPRG) all in one transaction. For example, one may want to take a work order hierarchy where all members are WAPPR and have the parent status change to INPRG while the children only move to APPR. This can be accomplished by leveraging Maximo’s workflow capabilities. Click the following link to learn more: Controlling mixed work order status inheritance via workflow

Using IBM Performance Analyst to Analyze DB2 Snapshots
The database is central to the functionality of IBM Tivoli service management products. It stores all data that is collected and calculated by the applications. This database also stores metadata for configuring and maintaining the environment. Reporting also generates resource-intensive management reports. Because all functionality is based on database performance, the database can be a key focus for performance tuning. SQL query tuning and creating indexes against a database can help to obtain maximum performance from IBM Tivoli service... [More]

Changing status of Stateful Mbos using Integration Framework
Ever explored the various ways of changing status of Mbos using the Integration framework. The Integration framework provides 2 kinds of services - Object Structure Services and Standard Services which allows a client to change status of a stateful Mbo using XML/HTTP or SOAP invocation. All these can achieved with configuration and no coding work is needed on the Maximo/Tpae platform side. For more details about how to do this please select this link or access this url... [More]

The MAXSESSION Table Unmasked
Note: Barb Ballard recently posted the following blog entry in the Process Automation Group. Since it equally applies to Asset Management, I thought I would post it here too. When debugging a problem or when looking to recycle a JVM, it is useful to
know which users are logged onto the system and what JVM they are working on.
If a JVM needs to be recycled, you could then notify the users on that JVM that they will
get an interruption in service. Or when debugging a problem it is useful to
know what a user was doing on a particular JVM... [More]

Maximo Scripting: Date Dizziness - Part III
Introduction In Part II of the series of articles calculating dates, we
learned to use the Java Calendar and Date classes and methods. The question is:
What is the equivalent in JavaScript? This article picks up where Part II left
off and implements a JavaScript-based script to calculate dates. JavaScript-based date calculation The scenario is exactly the same as Part II, so I will not
go over the set up details again. Please review Part II if you need to
understand how scripting is exploited to calculate dates. To summarize: I

Tips: Executing PM Wogen Crontask by Site
Have you ever wondered or felt
like you have been backed into a corner and couldn't get out? Well maybe you
have, but probably not when dealing with Maximo. Maximo is highly customizable
and if you ever thought that you couldn't do something in Maximo, you were
probably wrong. There is usually a way to accomplish most things you're looking
to accomplish. Either via custom code, or through front end customizations. Have you ever wondered how you could manipulate the PM Work

BiLog: Yoo Hoo...Multiple Object enablement in Report Object Structures
Yoo
Hoo. Yes...Not Yahoo...Yoo Hoo. I was introduced to this chocolate
milk type drink last week when I hosted over 40 girls from my daughter's
high school swim team for a pasta dinner. After a long day of school
and practice, the girls descend onto a parent's house to refuel
themselves with pasta and Yoo Hoo's before heading off to their next
activity of another swim practice, work or homework. I quickly lost count of how many cartons of Yoo Hoo's were consumed at our house....but couldn't get that marvelous, celebratory... [More]

Why collecting the Websphere "MustGather" data for opening a performance PMR really is beneficial
So, you think you have a performance issue that requires opening a PMR with IBM Maximo support. You open the PMR, and the first thing that comes back is, "Please provide the MustGather information". We're all in a hurry these days, and it seems like such a hassle to provide this info. However, read on, and I'll explain why the MustGather data for your Application and HTTP Server(s) can provide invaluable insight into your environment for solving performance issues. Just to recap, the data you are asked to collect for your... [More]

BiLog: Performance Enablers….Schedule Only Reporting …80/20 Reporting Rule
In last week’s BiLog , we talked about report usage, and how
you can utilize a variety of mechanisms, including reports, KPIs or result sets
to monitor which reports your users are and are not using. Report usage information is also critical in identifying
your reports which take to longest time to execute, as you want to insure these
are optimized for report performance. Why is this important?
Like so many things, reports follow the 80/20 rule, where 80% of your
report processing is done by only 20% of your reports. So as you... [More]

Do your assets talk to you?
Do you assets talk to you? Are you even listening? What could you do better if you knew what they were saying? Discussions with the various levels of government, private sector and others always reveals a complex matrix of systems that are unique to a particular department/division/branch/line of business that are not shared with any other groups. So the point is many times there are systems in place that perform monitoring and reporting about the current health of the asset, however combining the data from those systems is complex, difficult... Triggering Item Warranties in Maximo for Transportation
One of the questions I am most
frequently asked is in regards to how item warranties are triggered. In order to explain this, I
think it best to start with an example. Say you are in the mood for
listening to some of your favorite tunes as you jog along the river bank. You head down to the local electronics store
and pick out a stylin’ device with headphones that match your sneakers. Now, as is expected in our
society, you must pay for this item before you leave the store. Although the device has a warranty that will
take effect... [More]

Maximo Business Object Development - Best Practices
If you are an IBM client, business partner, consultant, or even a IBM Maximo developer you should be following the Maximo Development Best Practices when customizing Maximo Business Objects (MBO's). As a Maximo developer and Lab Advocate, I have dealt with many clients who have extended Maximo business objects and have made their own customizations. When extending the MBO's you should be aware that if done incorrectly, it could lead your end users to experience poor performance, out of memory errors and/or system crashes amongst... [More]

Maximo - Adding meter readings using the REST API
How do you post meter readings to Maximo using the Rest API? Which object structure should I use? Do I need any http headers? There is more than one way to use the Maximo Rest API to update Asset meter readings. So, what is the correct way? In Maximo 7.6, an out-of-the-box object structure was added to the product for the purpose of updating meter readings. That object structure is called MXMETERDATA. You can use this object structure if you wish to add meter readings using the Rest API. Below you will find an example of an asset, and... [More]

Maximo - Only 50% of messages in the continuous queue are processed, and the other 50% are missing and no errors recorded
I have run into a couple of situations as of late that presented strange symptoms when loading data into the continuous queue. In these scenarios, clients were loading records into the continuous queue using various methods, however only 50% of the messages in the queue were being processed successfully into Maximo, and the other half of the messages were simply missing and no longer in the queue. After digging around in the client's systems, I found that the JMS email listener MDB had been enabled in the following files:... [More]
