So you want to escalate a PMR and don't know how to.
As I was recently speaking to a customer, it dawned on me that this customer was suffering from the same issue that other customers have expressed. This was the frustration of not knowing the process of escalating a PMR. Navigating the IBM waters at time can be confusing to a new customer as IBM has myriads of products and product families that we support. Each one with its own set of support sub-processes and procedures. But fear not, the answer to this dilemma is very simple. Within the IBM Software Support Handbook you will... [More]

Improve End User Experience under poor network by using GZIP and Async function in Maximo
Recently we got a customer complained some UI interactions in Maximo 75 are too slow. We went to the customer's lab and did some tests, with HttpWatch/Firebug, we found the slow page response time is most from the response content receiving, not from the server side. In the customer scenario, they used signature option for most of the incidents in 'INCIDENT' application, and then they got a big size (more than 400 KB) of response content when switching the records. Through their poor network, the response content receiving time is... [More]

BiLog: Users...Maximo Business Intelligence Packs
They are not for everyone. Some people cringe or run away quickly when seeing them – while others embrace the beauty of these amazing succulent plants. Likewise, the new Maximo Business Intelligence (BI) Packs introduced here are not intended for every user in your environment. Its functionality targets a specific segment of your users. And giving this tool to that segment of users will enable them to dynamically and efficiently analyze Maximo data. As detailed in these BiLogs earlier, we often place Maximo users... [More]

Software Support Handbook - or making the most of IBM Support
How well do you understand IBM Support? Did you know that you can log, view and update PMRs (Problem Management Record) electronically via the SR (Service Request) tool? Did you know that a Severity 1 PMR is defined as: Critical Impact/System Down: Business critical software component is inoperable or critical interface has failed. This usually applies to a production environment and indicates you are unable to use the program resulting in a critical impact on operations. This condition requires an immediate solution. Did you know that... [More]

Using Telnet to Troubleshoot Email Connectivity
Introduction Occasionally we receive PMRs related to Email Listener connectivity and after having the customer do a simple test using telnet, they're able to isolate the difficulty outside of Maximo (and the JavaMail API). Examples of problems raised as PMRs include refused connections, timeouts, and invalid credentials. The following three scenarios (POP3, IMAP, SMTP) will address how to validate protocol connectivity using basic authentication. Communication with your email server may differ slightly from these examples and a... [More]

BiLog: X...Request Page XML
X is misunderstood. It can drive some to hold up a plane’s takeoff. Others may celebrate with unusual sounds or squirm in agony when faced with it on their tile board. Second only to Q and Z with its 8 point value, X should be recognized as a critical alphabetical character. Report request page xml is also often misunderstood. Misconceptions exist on what the request page xml is, when it needs to be generated and when it doesn’t need to be generated. To minimize that confusion, a listing... [More]

Automating the Flight Log Book in Maximo ACM
This blog covers the work that the Maximo Asset Configuration Manager (ACM) team has been doing recently, in particular the last ACM release and the capability for electronic Flight Log Book (eFLB). This is not a user guide, but a brief insight into the approach and how we went about it, so even if you don’t use ACM it will (hopefully) be interesting. The Requirement for Automating the FLB for ACM: The requirement to have an eFLB as part of Maximo ACM was driven by client demand to support the automation of... [More]
