Trace logging is a powerful tool that can log debug data in Maximo. It is used to log calls to methods in the Maximo classes so you can see what methods the code is calling. You can also add information to the log on what parameters were passed in and what was returned from the method. If you want even more information, you can create a stack trace to see what method called the method you are tracking. This logging does require some additional setup and have a performance hit since it's using byte code injection through a Java agent. The... [More]

For today's blog I'm going to shift back from IoT and mobile topics to security, specifically I want to discuss WebSphere's file based repository and how it can be used with Maximo. So first you ask what is WebSphere's file based repository, well just think of it as a directory of users that is local to WebSphere, it also stores your wasadmin user out of the box. This file based repository can exist as part of a federated repository configuration and be used to store users that can authenticate to your applications... [More]
Recently a customer inquired whether he can set the SD card as the path to store Attachments, rather than the system path. The customer was using a Android Mobile device and had followed the IBM Knowledge Center documentation at: Maximo Anywhere -> Maximo Anywhere 7.5.2 -> Configuring Maximo Anywhere -> Attachments properties http://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/SSPJLC_7.5.2/com.ibm.si.mpl.doc_7.5.2/configure/r_attachments_download.html There was no... I was running through a Maximo Anywhere 7.6 install the other day and I got to the point of building my Windows tablet applications when the build started to fail. I had done nothing different then previous runs in the past, however now this time I'm receiving a message saying my certificate has expired! But what certificate is expired? When using the Windows Maximo Anywhere applications we create certificates that are copied to the device and installed as trusted which allow us to sign the applications and install Maximo... [More]
Part Three - Severity, Response, and Engineer Engagement I am a "Level 2" Support Engineer for IBM Maximo and this is the third installment of a five-part series of articles that will give you an overview of the Maximo application support environment. These articles are based on a presentation that has been given by the Maximo L2 Support Manager, Thomas Aaron. In this part of the series I will discuss the support experience as it relates to PMRs, our support guidelines, and support engineer engagement. ... [More]
One of the many cool things about supporting Maximo applications for our clients is that I get to really hear about how they use the product, and what kinds of things that they would like to see the product do for them. Maximo users have come to know that there is robust customization and configuration possibilities within the product, and I have the daily pleasure of speaking to some of the most astute and creative users from many different industries who find elegant and thoughtful ways to take advantage of this. Despite the... [More]
I'm madly in love with both Watson and Wilson! Wilson's name is continuously on my mind as I have entered his name a bZillion times when logging into maximo. Soooo many times...that I unconsciously enter wilson/wilson to authenticate to the IBM network. Hmmmm...will IBM one day recognize Wilson as an employee? While you may also know Wilson very well....there may be some new BI features in Maximo 76 that you may not initially recognize. Some of the new features include the... [More]
Is it possible to make a YORN field required? This cannot be done with a YORN type attribute. The "required" input mode works when the field is null. So you cannot save the record if the field is null, because a value is required. However, the YORN field is never null. If the field is not checked, the value in the DB is "N". If checked is "Y".
Locking records functionality (Edit Mode) introduced in Maximo 7.6 causes some behavior that could pass as "issues" when browser's session is terminated, just to demo or "simulate" browser's or workstation's crash. Consider this step-by-step : 1. Enable Edit Mode for SR application, for example. 2. Go to Service Requests application and create SR ticket. 3. Clear cookies in your browser. 4. Re-login and enter the same SR you created in step 2. 5. Edit icon is disabled and there is no way to edit SR. ... [More]
There is a new button in 184.108.40.206. Result Set Export. Let's call him RSE . (We like acronyms. Remember Balderdash?) RSE is similar to his friend, QBE . QBE (Query By Example. We really do like acronyms.) enables you to download an application's list tab results to Microsoft Excel. RSE enables you to download your result set contents to CSV format. (Yup. Comma Separated Values) QBE -> Application List Tab Results -> Microsoft Excel RSE ->... [More]
Overview I see a lot of clients who are always asking for updating user status based on their status in Active Directory (AD). While this functionality does not come with base Maximo, it can be accomplished by using a method that involves adding a custom (meaning not in Maximo by default) attribute to Maximo that pulls the status directly from the field in AD that tracks user status. After adding the attribute to Maximo, we can pull the data from AD via the VMMSYNC or LDAPSYNC, and then once we have the information, we can use an escalation to... [More]
Can we change the maxadmin, maxreg and mxintadmin username ? That's not a recommendation that we can give you. What happens is that once you change those usernames in your Maximo environment users will be already created, and Maximo installation process will probably fail with the following error message: Error: CTGIN2080E: Process automation engine database configuration failed. The recommendation in this case, is that you do NOT change the username info for those users while installing Maximo. Thanks and Good luck!
Have you tried report downtime in Workorder Tracking application and the hours field was not accepting the correct downtime or not displaying the correct downtime? Today I have a tip about that. Unlike Person records, Asset records do not contain a field to specify the Asset's time zone. So, when the Asset's Calendar and Shift are evaluated to calculate downtime, that evaluation must assume that the Calendar and Shift have been entered to describe the Asset's available hours in the database server's time zone. For... [More]
