I get asked if there is a way to delete classifications I no longer wish to use, You can not delete them but you can, with some work, hide them You will need to modify the classification and add a global data restriction so that it can no longer be selected from the Classify dialog box. 1) Go To Database Configuration 2) Add a field to classstructure to mark a Classification as obsolete/inactive/etc: 3) Go to the Application Designer. 4) Open the Classifications application and add field called Inactive: 5)Go to the Conditional Expression... You've downloaded and installed WebSphere 8.5.5, the IHS and the Plugin. You have everything up and running, Maximo deployed and want to use the web server to access Maximo or load balance to multiple JVM's, so why isn't it working? Why are you receiving "Page Not Found" errors? In most cases it's likely a key step was missed that is automated with the Middleware\Maximo install when using WebSphere 7, that step is the Plugin Configuration. During the install of WebSphere 8.5.5, you may of only installed the Application... [More]

I was recently asked the following: I’m starting to learn BIRT and have recently taken over report writing at my company. I’m confused about the best way to pass information to a sub-report. I’ve looked at some of our existing reports and they don’t do it the same way. I responded back that there are two primary method to pass information from a main report to a sub-report. IBM Method I call this technique the IBM Method because it’s how IBM would teach a new user of BIRT to pass information to a sub-report and is... [More]
There are 2 parts to security in an application. Authentication - Where someone is allowed to access the application Authorization - Where someone is given privileges within the application to access particular functions like admin, work, accounting, etc Authentication mechanisms can be generic because they do not need to know anything about what happens inside the application. They just allow or disallow access to the application. Authorization mechanisms must be built by the application since only the designer of the... [More]
Just a quick plug before we head off into the land of screen shots. I attended a demo that showed off new user interface features coming in the next version of Maximo. Of great interest was the new interface, or skin. It's much cleaner than before, with larger type and just the right amount of white space. They've also hidden some elements that don't need always to be seen. (If you're worried about the new look causing problems for users used to the old look and feel, don't worry - everything is turned off when you upgrade... [More]

Continuing from my last blog posting , the next step is to migrate your profiles. Today's entry is pretty much going to be a step-by-step how to migrate the existing Deployment Manager profile, using out-of-the-box (OOB) Maximo 7.5. Your own environment is more complex than out-of-the-box Maximo, so this will be easy. Let's start! 1. First, shut down IBM HTTP and IBM WAS 7.0 services, and change their startup Type to manual. Then, restart the server. Even though you'll be given a chance to back up your profiles... [More]

Continuing from my last blog post , I'm assuming you have installed WebSphere 8.5.5. I'm going to do a simple migration: out-of-the-box Maximo 184.108.40.206 from WebSphere 220.127.116.11 to WebSphere 18.104.22.168. Prerequisites for using Migration Tool: 1. I've prepared the following to walk clients through the deployment stage step by step with screenshots to be able to effectively and efficiently deploy an ear file. Login to the WebSphere console, expand Applications, click WebSphere enterprise applications and then click the Install button.
