The purpose of this article is to present a technical solution using Maximo Automated Scripting to the problem of plain text white space content via email appearing flattened in the SR ticket Rich Text Editor (RTE).
Before getting into the nitty-gritty details, it's important to mention that this is a single application of scripting to this type of problem. If the plain text is coming in... [More]
It is around that time of year again when budgets are released, so the cash pours in(or seen the current economic climate more like trickles in..) to do a Maximo or TPAE upgrade or installation.
With that I have noticed over the years recurring questions of many of you out there how any redundant or not operated Maximo Add-ons or Industry Solutions can be un-installed.
The simple answer is , Maximo Add-ons or Industry Solutions cannot be un-installed.
To name some Add-ons or IS' , but by no means all of the widely used... [More]
A few days ago Pam Denny and I had a discussion on whether any aspects of reporting could be automated through automation scripts. I had heard similar questions from clients at a previous Pulse event and I was quite intrigued by the possibilities. The user need was very clear though: can the end user avoid having to click through a number of steps to configure report execution and instead of the system execute the report in a pre-configured way? Such an approach should not require Java customization.
I spent some time reviewing the... [More]
The current Migration Group, CLASSIFICATIONDATA, does not migrate the Attributes and Measure Units.
This can result in missing descriptions on Attributes and Measure Units which can be confusing for the end user.
The solution is to add two new Migration Objects for these two objects so that they can be migrated and then to create
a new Migration Group containing the exisitng DMCLASSIFICATION Migration Object and the two new created
Migration Objects for Attributes and Measure Units.
Creating the two new Migration Objects
I have been in Maximo Support for many years and often the question comes up what does LIFO/FIFO do?
You can define your costs on an item by item basis by changing the cost type in Inventory on that item or a default for your site in the Organization application->Select Action->Inventory Options->Inventory Costs.
In here, you can define what accounting method you want to track so that your costs reflect the standard for that item.
When you do that, the Inventory application displays a different table.
The Maximo Support Resources pages have been redesigned to meet IBM Mobile standards and provide a better user experience. These pages provide a Maximo centric view of the IBM online experience with quick access to all sorts of resources including Support, Developer Works, SMC, Documentation all in a single location. In addition, these pages are built to deliver quick results on the topics most requested from our clients. With a single click, all documents related to a particular Maximo topic are returned... After upgrading to Maximo 7.5 many clients have decided to keep on using Issues and Transfer application. One of the reasons for using Issues and Transfer application instead of the new Inventory Usage application is due to training issues. Users do not want to learn a whole new application and business owners do not want to spend money on training.
However, Inventory usage application is actually quite easy to use and it offers all the features available in Issues and Transfer application.
One of Jakob Nielsen’s top ten rules for usability is: Minimize the user's memory load by making objects, actions, and options visible. The user should not have to remember information from one part of the dialogue to another. Sometimes adding an additional field or section into an application can greatly improve the efficiency of your end users. You can add fields or sections to an existing user interface through configuration by using the Application Designer. Here’s a tutorial on adding a simple field into the user interface that was posted... [More]
If you are an IBM client, business partner, consultant, or even a IBM Maximo developer you should be following the Maximo Development Best Practices when customizing Maximo Business Objects (MBO's). As a Maximo developer and Lab Advocate, I have dealt with many clients who have extended Maximo business objects and have made their own customizations. When extending the MBO's you should be aware that if done incorrectly, it could lead your end users to experience poor performance, out of memory errors and/or system crashes amongst... [More]

This post describes a technical solution that gives clients the flexibility to delete attached documents (DOCLINKS) seamlessly and with ease. By leveraging existing functionality in Maximo namely Escalations and Automation Scripting, you can purge attached documents from the location where the document physically lives. A selection criteria should be defined in an Escalation (e.g. STATUS... [More]
Email Interaction Setup (EIS) application application is included in Maximo Asset Management Fixpack 126.96.36.199 and above.
With EIS users can interact with Maximo using a smartphone without having to login to Maximo:
Change the status of a record such as a work order
Accept or reject a workflow assignment
Update attributes such as the start date
The overall benefit of using Email Interaction Setup is that progress is not held up while waiting for the action of an end user.
Below is a... [More]
A best practice of User Interface design is to only show the information that a particular user cares about. To quote from Jakob Nielsen : "Dialogues should not contain information which is irrelevant or rarely needed. Every extra unit of information in a dialogue competes with the relevant units of information and diminishes their relative visibility." Showing only the information that your users care about can greatly increase their productivity and reduce your support and administrative costs. For example, you might want the... [More]
Interested in HA and DR configuration with SCCD and Maximo? A new RedBook draft is now available for download. In today’s global environment, more and more organizations need to
reduce their downtime to the minimum possible and look for continuous
availability of their systems. Products based on the IBM® Tivoli®
Process Automation Engine (TPAE), like IBM Maximo® Asset Management,
Maximo Industry Solutions, and IBM SmartCloud™ Control Desk, often play a
role in such environments and thus also have continuous availability... [More]

Support technical exchanges (STEs) are educational sessions led by our subject matters experts (SMEs) from within our product support team. These SMEs can provide a fresh prospective on your Tivoli products, as well as, best practices you can take home. To find the upcoming schedule of STEs, as well as re-plays from previous STEs, for the Maximo and Maximo based products (SCCD, TSRM, CCMDB) check out this link: http://ibm.co/OGKGUv
